my brother jst picked up(doin paper work really)a 3000gt and we test drove it and fortunaltly this black new model v8 mustang comes up next to us at a stop light... our car had a 3.0 NA 200hp SL engine (stick)....v8 had i think 225hp if i remember correctly and he was a stick too. both weighed aproximatly the same. wats sad is my brother knows how to drive a stick, jst not "well"....light turned green and we only got to 75 and a cop showed up so we slowed down and i looked back....its like 2 and half car lengths.... he went passed us then notice the cop and slowed down and we messed wit him again (punchin the gas)....and we took off again as soon as he did....we were in 4th and i looked back its 2 car lengths behind again....ill be drivin it soon for awhile and messin wit cars till i get my car. but too bad its FWD

If the 3000GT isn't a VR-4 then it's slow. Sorry but there heavy and only have 222hp with FWD. If it was a brand new mustang V8 then it had 280 HP i think, the older "newer" styles had from 240-260 HP i can't remember.

all '99 and up SN95 mustang GT's are equipped with a 4.6L SOHC V8 that produces 260 hp and 302 ft lbs of torque.

I know. . I know. . I've been told hundreds of times, but 0-60 isn't that important of a measurement.... but...

99+ Mustang GT 0-60: 5.4 sec
3000GT SL: 7.5

yeah thats pretty pathetic, on the part of the mustang. i dont neccessarily always say that japanese and other imports are better than american cars, but the fact that a FWD car with alot less torque and marginally less HP could beat a big rwd car with more hp and torque and even weigh slightly less is pitiful. anyways, tell him to get that vr-4 engine and drivetrain up in there otherwise it doesnt do much more than look good, he'll have civic si's nipping at his heels with ease.

what year is it?

95, man from a 90 corola to this, its nice enough for him, yea i know i told him the same thing, and look...hes got low insurance on the car anyways. but wait till i get a hold of it. I dunno....ive mention it to him....nah, SI cant mess wit this at all...we burn a GSR jst now on the ride home.

Its a chic magnet, main reason y he liked it, the other is its fast enough for him.

OK I don't really see how a stock SL could beat a GS-R but thats ok. The only thing im really wanting to know is what the driver of the mustang was doing to get beat by a stock SL? BTW 0-60 5.4 is for the 99 up Cobra mustang not GT, the GT is right at 6 flat. At any rate with good drivers I feel that the Mustang and GS-R would have beat the 3000GT. Has any one here ever beat a stock mustang on here with there S13 (With the KA engine)? I keep up pretty well but I dont beat them by 2 cars....

LoL the stock SL is gonna be near even with a SI and a gs-r would take it out and the stang shoulda crushed it, the stang probably wasnt racing or it was a v-6 pretending to be an 8

I'm a previous mustang owner and still an avid fan and builder of them. The 96-98 4.6's 2 valve motors are simply dogs off the line. The 5-speeds are alright as long as you have some decent suspension behind you and you can launch hard, but the automatics just take way to #### long to wind up. Same with the 95, with the 5 liter, the automatic was a dog. The newer ones aren't as bad though. So honestly I could see an SL beating one on the street, not necessarily by that gap but could see it happen. As always it's a matter of drivers Personally even being a mustang fanatic I would never own the 2 valve 4.6 liter, just doesn't stand at all next to the 4 valve 4.6 in the cobras's potential.
