View Full Version : sr20det 272 cam problem?
OK just got done putting my motor back in with got it running and so one.
was really pumped to here the 272's cam. However it sounds like a stock car idles at 1000rpm no chop at all. Sounds like a stock sr20.
Timing is dead on mechanical and threw the cas.
Has great oil pressure(new oil pump)
Im lost as what it could be.
Lifters are bad? Head isnt getting oil? just confused
thanks for the help

did you just drop them in on a stock tune and everything? whats the engine and head have done to it.
its tuned by martin. for these cams and my setup. has bc springs retainers oversized valves intake and exhaust. and the 272 cams.
gonna take it by a local shop tomorrow.. he believes nothing is wrong just want to double check.

BC cams? Probably due to lack of overlap. I am not sure if they did that on purpose or not; but it is what it is. Im sure they will make great power anyways.
If you want to actually hear 262 or 272 duration "radical cam idle" you need to buy Tomei or JWT or HKS cams.

What EMS are you using?
BC are not as crazy as HKS STEP 2 or STEP 3. They are the friendly, cheap kind of ok cams. Sometimes they make great power but usually only when paired with some other head work.
If you're saying the only problem is the car's idle doesn't sound badass enough? Then you're not buying cams for the right reason. Overlap is great but cam design and ramp angle as well as lift on lop can still have overlap but at different rpms. This is also a possibility. Also not sure about this shop but if they put adjustable cam sprockets on and tweaked it so it would be more daily driver friendly they may have tacked down some of the lower end overlap. But either way if you want crazy V8 sounding cams get HKS step 2 or Step 3, some polishing and port matching and a nice big Q45 TB and good exhaust. lol
