well im pretty much a 5spd guy but been getting very tired of shifting thru each gears thru traffic....well heres the senerio...

I got a Great deal on a s13 Sr20det(auto)motor $1,200

well I found a older s13 coupe auto ,$750

how many would rather have a 5spd ? I have heard that you need to redrill the firewall for the clutch reserivor ? is it worth finding a 5spd s13 instead of a s13 auto?

Budject wise I would get the motor $1,200 and Plus the Auto s13 $750 i would be under $2gs for everything ... i am getting a bit tired of driving around 5spd,But I wanted to know what you guys would do , factors in changing 5spd or maybe later down the road to swap it out ? how much work and what would I need to do for the 5spd? would the Ka tranny bolt up or would I need to find a Sr Tranny as well ? any advantage in automatic boosting ? is there any companys that make high stall Torque converators and shift kits or valve body upgrades? does anyone have an average price ?
also if I have to fine a Sr Tranny (because KA wouldnt fit) how much does the SR tranny usually run for purchase (excluded shipping) just a ruff estimate of how much it would run ?
thanks in advance for your replys\

edit : also did any of the coupe come with sunroofs? automatic sunroofs?

If you are too lazy to shift then don't bother buying a performance motor. Buy a 1995 Honda Accord. I know it can be annoying at times, but for those few times you want to have fun, you will slap yourself for getting a freaking auto.

5 speed swap is not hard to do. It's getting to be the norm cause 5 speed 240s are getting harder to find.

I wouldn't even go near an auto SR personally.

ok welll for the replys ..
Aadosx - Yes im getting a bit lazy now because I drive a Turbo KA Altima that I communite everyday ...im getting tired of shifting but yet when I drive my friends Auto Jz supra I have much fun ..without shifting ,because I have heard autos have more advantage and come along way with more upgrade performance ..a human cannot shift faster than a computer, But yes I am only asking for opinions.
The main factor is cause I do alot of driving and my KAT already is tiring enough, I was going to purchase this 240 project and keep it auto for my daily driver. EDIT : DONT EVEN INSULT ME WITH A HONDA ....I may be new here but im way older than you and been with Dastun/Nissan for life...Saying a Honda Accord would be giving up my life :madfawk:

night walker -it makes more sense to buy a AUTO SR motor just cause over seas its more expensive for autos , I know for a Fact in the U.K. it more wiser to have a 5spd than auto because of high rate gas rate ....so im assuming the owner of this SR must have kept it well taken care of and less of beating the hell out of the motor than a 5spd.. so this is my main concern for purchasing the motor.Im still searching if the KA tranny fits or not ...this is my main concern because I do not what to spend more money for a swap or how much time involded

Dude, just get 5 speed, how could you go w/out it. SOME autos can shift faster, but most are about the same as a good driver. You can't launch, you can't hold and pull through a corner (once again, unless its a very expensive auto), etc. Suck it up for traffic like we all do.

I personaly would stay 5-speed. Say you get bored of driving your auto SR then your gunna have to change it and go through the hassle of finding a SR tranny and install and all that crap. You may save money on the motor now but when you want to swap 5-speed agian you will be spending even more money. I think swaping to 5speed right now is the best option for you and will save you time and money in the long run in which you can just use to do other mods.

It is now burned into my brain to drive manual. I know this because I still look for the clutch with my left foot when I start up my mom's auto. It is not a hassle at all to shift through the gears either and I have been through the worst of LA traffic, not bad at all. Well other than waiting...when it's hot...and the ac doesn't blow the cold in your face.

...

what's wrong with a honda accord? it's a great sedan... i personally think the new ones have decent styling, great mileage, better acceleration then my 240. its not a sports car but its not trying to be one.

i've heard of people getting tired of stick... usually in the late 30s near 40. so i'm going to assume ur older at least. if u have the funds, get the 5spd sr20det for now, then get another car for your daily commute. i think a sr20det auto 240sx would really be a waste, and i have a feeling that although your left foot is gettin tired in traffic mon-fri, you will regret that tranny when its saturday morning, you're cruising along with nobody on the road, and you're coming up on a series of twisties.

ok, my take on this, sports car wise 5 speed is the way. now me being a denizen of Los Angeles I can say that having a auto in traffic is a godsend. My girlfriend used to believe in stick as well after being forced to commute for school she wants an auto. Hence I will be finding her an auto 95 and she will be happy. An auto SRdet would be kinda interesting. I am curious to see how the Japanese geared the auto trans on that setup. I say do it. Let us know how it is. If you don't like it then you can swap to 5 speed.
oh yeah don't let anyone scare you about finding a sr tranny and in fact you could use a KA 5 speed with a SR bell housing been done many times.

good luck!

Personally I like them both....auto and 5sp....the most fun car I've even driven was a 5 speed, but I wouldn't want to do that everyday...and I definitely don't have to commute or go through heavy traffic most of the time. I love my auto FB honestly, yes ,sometimes I wish I had the 5sp....but thats very rare,I didn't get my 240 as a drag racer I got it as a fun car,and it is one. Overall I am glad its an auto...I mean,I don't think I would make it home at all those 2 A.M. bonsai run homes from the late movie....

EDIT:Honestly an SR auto sounds cool....but thats just me....

well if you just wanna make it fun daily driver.. i guess auto is fine.. unless if you're doing other stuff like autoX and all that...
auto SR is okay by me... its just an SR.. 2.0L turbo..
its not like if you go SR.. you HAVE to have 5 speed because its a JDM tyte motor and bla bla...
the car is what you use it for.
