how many of you guys are using conventional oil vs. synthetic?
right now im using 10w-40 conventional oil in my s14 sr20, and talking to jeff ricca from 240sxmotoring he recommended using conventional too because he says synthetic seems too thin for his liking. he uses it in his 240 race car as well.
just wondering what everyone else is using as well.

I know the search feature leaves much to be desired on this website, but there are probably 5,000 of these threads. Do a search, there is no reason to start a new one of these every month.
Here's two...

Castrol High Mileage 10w30 (Part Synthetic) with a Fram Tough Guard filter for the daily.
Castrol Syntec 10w30 (Synthetic) with K&N Filter for the so called "Track Car."
Works for me.
rotella T5 synthetic blend on my stock KA.
i have my mildly build S13 SR20DET that I will be swapping in, I will be running synthetic Rotella T6 in that.

I don't use oil. I hear that stuff is bad for the motor :)
Royal Purple 10w-30 is what's used in the track car.

Castrol High Mileage 10w30 (Part Synthetic) with a Fram Tough Guard filter for the daily.
Works for me.
I also use this combination and I am content with the performance of the oil.

Please, slap your friend in the face for me, and if he asks why tell him to stop talking nonsense :picardfp:
mineral, "half" (which is actually anywere between 5% and above. Guess how much it really is most of the time ? ) or full synth exists in various viscosities. a 10w40 has the same viscosity wether it is synth or mineral, at least when new, and will tend to thin with age when it is not fully synth.
As for the rest of the question, it is one of the biggest can of worm you could open, so please hit the search button. Oil viscosity choice depends on the health of your engine, its usage and the weather where it is running, you are not likely to get any useful answer if you dont specify these.

if you ever heard of him, he is the owner of cip motorsports and 240sxmotoring.com (they are also a sponsor on this forum as well)
...so i would trust what he has to say
the thread was mainly asking how many ppl use synthetic vs. conventional, not to find the right viscosity
thanks all

Castrol High Mileage Part Synthetic 10w-30 on my ka. And ive tried different filters, in my opinion OEM and K&N are the best. Its also a good idea to add a magnetic drain plug :D.

10w-30 Valvoline Synthetic Blend. Had top viscosity readings in head to head Australian tests on engine stress...Like better than Royal Purple. The other top end brands are fine. If you're looking to save a little money and it's a car sub-500 hp and daily this oil is fine though. Make sure the motor ran from re-build with synthetic, don't throw synthetic - full - into a motor that's got 100k+ Miles on it and has always run on organic oil...
