View Full Version : KA24DE - idle problems

I replaced the radiator for my ka24de with a ka24e radiator which are the same except the transmission cooling line inlet and outlet on the rad (present on the ka24de not on the ka24e). My car is still (unfortunately) auto so I had to use a barb and connect the line because there was no inlet for it anymore. When I started the car to do the coolant flush I forgot to pug the maf in for the first run, car ran like shit and I plugged in the maf, fixed. Fast forward - the transmission line fell from the hanger, a hole was rubbed and I lost fluid and all grip from the clutch plates and had to fix the line and re-fil. Post transmission line hole the following is happening:

Car is idling LOW, like 500-600rpm and despite being totally stock is not keeping a steady idle.

Its auto and if i remove my foot from the brake it doesn't move

The clutch (I mean torque converter.. oops) is slipping in all gears but 3-4 and it sounds like I am driving stick for the first time. (tranny is blown i'm assuming but this could relate to the idle problem)

I've reset the ECU thinking the maf re-programmed itself when I left it unplugged and that had no help, fluid levels are good.
Help??

There is no clutch in an automatic transmission.

I understand that automatic transmissions have coolant hoses that go up to the radiator, is that was you are saying is leaking, or a clutch line? Because really, you have no clutch if you have an automatic transmission.

anyways, besides that confusing issue, the Idle should have nothing to do with the transmission. It most likely has to do with the MAF. Does the car get any worse if you un-plug the MAF, or does the idle stay the same?

also, Idle is controlled by the IACV (Idle air control valve) on the passenger side of the KA24DE block, just behind the water neck area. If you don't have a FSM (factory service manual) get one. www.240sxtechdvds.org has a FSM for many different cars, including yours.

You live in Alberta by any chance? if yes, PM me, if no, dont bother.
