whats up zilvia , I am a long time lurker that finally turned to a member.I been having a lot of oil pressure problems(dummy light) with my 220k mile 91 dual cam running 10-40 conventional. So far I have already changed oil pump gears,seals,o-ring,relief valve, cleaned pickup and oil pan.I also inspected the oil pan for dents and changed oil filter.

Before I changed oil pump gears I was getting low psi about less than 10 psi at idle and about 25psi at 3k rpm, using a mechanical gauge. After I swapped the oil pump everything ran good for about 25 miles. Then suddenly my head started making a bunch of noise.Sounds like cams/ lifters are not getting lubricated.I then re connected the mechanical gauge, only to unveil that I have zero oil pressure.I assume that if my pump job failed my block would be pretty noisey as well. Are my bearings done? time for rebuild?

I am also aware that oil pump does not create pressure and that restriction of flow does. The only thing I can think of is maybe the oil vallies could be clogged.I have been lurking and searching the internet(and all s-chassis forums) for the past month to resolve this issue.I need help from you veteran DE'rs. Thanks in advance

here is what my head sounds like :smash:

Go hit up a junk yard and grab a oil pump off a KA there. If it fixes your problem it was your rebuild. If it doesn't its probably a main galley plugged.

I might just do that. Does anyone know how to unclog the oil gallies?I would like to try that before removing the motors whole front cover, or do they need to be removed in order to do so?

did u replace the main oil galley gasket? if its missing you will have oil pressure problems. During my rebuild i forgot about it lol.

at the time of changing all of the parts, did you happen to inspect the oil pick up strainer?? could be clogged.

thanks for the replies! I have cleaned the strainer, inspected pan and installed new relief valve.I tested my pump with the drill gun method and oil was flowing.I noticed when I removed my bottom timing cover the oil gallie seal was stuck to the timing cover and not the block.I have removed about 5 oil pumps from the junkyards and every time the seal has been stuck to the block not the cover.I think excess RTV may have prevented a good seal between the two parts.Need to get a new oil pan(another noob excess rtv F up) and oil gallie seal then hopefully I can put everything back together today.
