View Full Version : Is a VE head conversion on a sr20det overkill for 350-400hp ?

Ok guys. Have a low milage sr20det. It is pretty stock atm apart from fmic, uprated fuel pump and turbo elbow. I have a p11,ve head on the way. The intention was to build a forged lump with ve head capable of 500hp. Things have changed slightly. I am now thinking of keeping stock internals and aiming for a very responsive 350hp. This way I can enjoy the car rather than being stuck in a workshop 90% of time like my friends.
I am just wondering if a ve head is a little overkill for that sort of power.
Thoughts.

Yes, it's overkill as far as cost goes. Power wise, you'll have a more efficient motor and make those numbers at lower pressure levels versus the DET. However, it's a big initial investment and not needed for that power level.
2871R, 750cc's, and a good tune will net you 400ish.

But you wont ever hard to worry about the engine throwing a rocker arm and rev to 9k with no problems.

if you want a high rev ceiling, an f20c would cost the same as a VE head swap no?

The head has been purchased so no turning back with that. Suppose if the engine is out may aswell forge it and aim for a little more power.

No, not to mention more fab work.

Unless you also have a strong provision for gearboxes and clutches, dont.
