How do I torque down the top nut on the rear coilovers? S14. When I turn that nut the whole metal shaft for the damper turns, and there's nothing to hold onto to keep it from turning.
Thanks,
John

use the wrench and hold the top perch. then tighten it down.

Is the car on the ground?

Yes the car is on the ground. And there is no top perch that I can hold onto on the rears.

ok.. ignore me..
I was thinking in the fronts.
You might be able to hold the lower spring perch in place with the spanner wrench while someone sits in the car and torques the top nut?

for the rear, look at the shaft nut. it has two flat sides. you have to hold on to it with a wrench and tighten nut. i had to remove them and retighten. i'm gonna do it again and clean them soon so i will check the nuts again.

you need locking vice grips too hold the "flat" top of the shaft. and an open ended wrench to tighten. its a pain in the ass.

its not that bad to do. i wouldn't recomend using vice grips. use number 8 (IIRC)open-end wrench to hold the flat ends..

And this is possible while the coilovers are installed?

And the only torque wrenches that I've ever seen had to use a socket... and I don't see how you can use a socket to do this.

i would just take the coilover off. its much easier, plus you can clean it up while you are at it.

I just installed them two days ago... no need to clean. Heh. But yeah, after looking at it, this will be a PITA w/out taking them out. I have to jack the car up to adjust them, so I'll prolly just take them out. BTW, those crow's feet were 40 dang bucks at sears.

I'll figure out a way to rig it, it'll be easy.
