Today i was driving and my idle was high after driving, it would stay at around 1450. Later in the day the check engine light came on. I started driving to a garage to check the code, then shortly after the temperature gauge went hotter than normal, so i pulled over to not risk over heating. My question is: can a faulty coolant temp sensor cause the car to idle high?

It shouldnt...bad water temp sensor will usually make the car run rich.
