Probably a newb sort of question, but I have never had much experience with boosted vehicles. I found a decent KA24DE for sale that has been "tapped" for a turbo setup, but has no turbo installed (Owner went RB instead of KA-T). From what I can tell, it is a complete motor, just no trans. So this leads me to my first question:

1. What exactly does it mean that the engine is "tapped" for a turbo?

&

2. Would it be possible to run this engine minus the turbo setup? OR would I need to install a turbo kit to run it?

Thanks for any input!

You will have to ask him specifically what he tapped. He could of just have tapped the oil pan for an oil drain, or have tapped the actual block itself for it. Most, if not all, people get their oil by installing a T-fitting where the factory oil pressure sensor is, so I dont think he tapped anywhere else other than that.

Hope that helps.

Forgot to add:

And yes you should be able to use it without a turbo. All you will need to do is plug the threaded hole or cap the a pipe of he used one. The only problem I see is that some people tap the oil pan without the AC compressor on there and you could have trouble clearing it if you will be using one... but should not be a hard fix.
