Just lookin' for some opinions on it. Mainly dealing w/ why it would be better to have an n/a ka24de compared to an sr20det or ka24det n vice versa for autocrossing your car.
It wouldn't hurt your times or anything but you'll be put in a much higher class with a turbo rather than just bolt-on's. An Ideal setup for auto-x would be to build your car up as fast as possable without bumping you into the next class. I think once you go turbo, your in the highest class...for streetable cars anyway so you'll probably be up against some pretty tough competetion but if that doesn't bother you then turbo away!

that's why i'm debating if a turbo is really necessary. i just might get bolt-ons n stuff n get used to all while i drive n progressively learn to drive a lot better instead of just slapping a kit on there n be up there w/ the big boys.
Same here, if my car ever gets a turbo it won't be for atleast two years so I'm gona just do suspension and some bolt-on's and auto-x in the "street prepared" class for a couple years. here's from the SCAA website...
"Street Prepared
Any and all Stock Category vehicles are eligible for Street Prepared. You're also allowed to make modifications to the suspension, ignition, intake, and exhaust to further enhance the performance of the vehicle. No internal engine modifications are allowed, but minor changes to the bodywork to accommodate larger wheels and tires are permitted. Please refer to the Solo Rules for details on the allowable modifications."
Here's some links incase you (or more likely other people reading this) haven't seen them.

Was thinking the something. I run auto X a couple of times (maybe a year) them Slap the SR on. Get the skillZ first then the power. .

no matter what I think your first races will be in Novice. Once you win one or two you get bumped up. At least, that's what I'm told. I'm going turbo anyways

i think i'll be good enough w/ all my bolt-ons. i just want like a bunch of suspension stuff. handling before power. i'd rather have fun driving my car than just driving straight most of the time now that i think about it. looks like my plans have changed.

Cool, that means this spring I'll actually stand a chance at not comming in last my first couple times I still won't be able to get a turbo for a couple years, but i'm happy to hear I won't be thrown right in with the people who have done it for years.

Actually, turbo cars tend to run in Street Mod - a new class designed to catch the well built street car. SP does not allow power adders (i.e., F/I). The competitiveness of this class, or any others, depends entirely on your region.
DSC - if you do NASA events (in Petersburg) you will find the following:
E-Stock (ES) - home to stock 240s. They are very competitive in this class - especially w/ badass tires. Watch out for the Se-R's
Street Touring - Street tire (STS) - home to the basic bolt on + suspension 240. This is a dangerous class as AWD Subbies (2.5 RS) tend to dominate. Si's and, IIRC, GSRs also tend to run fast here. I haven't taken the 240 to compete here, but I think it could keep up w/ the Hondas, but not the Subbies. This is probably THE MOST COMPETITIVE CLASS in regional autox!!
Street Mod - motor swaps and F/I cars. Not too much competition b/c this area is filled w/ STS, BS, & SS cars.
Also, yes, you will run your first events as a novice. You will be ranked both in class and in the novice class. BUT remember - you shouldn't come out thinking about winning, just having fun and improving. As time goes by, your times will shorten and then you can start thinking about the competition. Hope to see you out there...

Seriously now, would it be much better to have an SR20DET instead of a torquey N/A KA w/ bolt-on's for autoxing, no matter what class ur in. I've never been or even seen an autox event so I'm still clueless.

Okay - I guess your question is just about raw time? For that, I'm sure the SR would be better than an NA KA. Most of autox is run in second gear at revs. I've found the KA tends to run out of revs too quick and the SR is supposed to be happier above 5K rpm. Also keep in mind that a stock SR has more torque than a KA (not a KA-T), so it combines torque and HP.
My point above, however, is that autox is run in classes to keep it competitive. By class, the NA KA would be most likely to win in ES, maybe a chance in STS. But I have no idea about the SR in SM, since I've never seen one in it. Maybe I'll be able to let you know at the end of next season

Thanks for responding. Yeah, I guess I was tryin' to get at where you're mostly driving at, which u said. I would like to autox my car down the road rather than drag it or nething n I couldn't see if it would be worth it to have an sr in there if i was just gonna autox it.

I autocross my 240 about twice a month and I absolutely love it. At the state championships of our region out of 118 cars I was 8th fastest. 2 of the seven faster were street cars, brand new Z06's on suspension and slicks, and the other 5 were full race cars, on full slicks. I won my class and was less than 2 seconds off of top time of day. At my usual races I am in the top 5 fastest cars.

that's real cool, i hope i can do that one day. would u say that there is a lot of lag during your runs? or is the turbo kickin' in most of the time?
PSI240SX

mostly boosting, only sometimes does it lag, gotta try to jam it in first for those corners.

I run 20psi all day every day on pump gas. At the track and dragging it the same.

PSI - that's what I like to hear. How competitive is your regional SM class? Around here, SM is empty - but we have several top national drivers in BS, SS, AS, and STS... very competitive region. There are about five or so z06's at the average event... I'm looking ahead to try to determine if my car will be competitive or not.
Drifting - what springs are you running and how do you have them adjusted? I've talked to people that ran Koni's and kg/mm's and Koni's and Eibachs - that latter had the WS (recent conversation). He liked the Koni's better than the WS (he traded after he blew a second shock). Maybe you'll just need some fine tuning.
