View Full Version : Suspension damage. . .without drifting

Believe it or not folks, I fucked up my suspension without drifting. I got stuck in the mud, wrestled my way out and since then (this afternoon), my car has been shakey as hell. Feels like an out of balance tire to the extreme. I star feeling a shimmy at about 30 mph, gets really bad around 50, and feels like she's going to fall apart (and feels like tires are leaving the ground) around 60. Needless to say, it was a long drive home. Anyhow, I'v e hosed off the mud and am going to put it up on jacks soon. Any ideas of what to look for? From my best guestimate, the problem is coming from the front passenger corner.

Could be there's a lot of mud buildup on the underside of the wheel, (area where the calipers are). Here in minnesota, when show builds up inside there on the wheel, the steering wheel shakes like made at about 50-60 mph. Make sure you clean up your wheels really well, Inside and out.

Yeah, i was thinkin that same thing. Mud on the inner lip of the rim, makes it way out of balance.

The inner side of the rims is clean. . . That was my first thought. Could still be inside the spokes where I can't see too well. I'm going to put it up on jacks tonight and have a closer look at all the wheels

Oh, one thing I forgot, I tend to notice the shaking in the shifter before I feel it in the steering wheel or my ass. . . I'm thinking maybe (hopefully) it's mud on the driveshaft, maybe a rear wheel. As much as I like driving my stepdad's Silverado around. . . I gotta get my baby fixed!

it really sounds like you have a rock or some mud stuck somewhere. I don't think mud on the drive shaft would stay there, but mud on the wheels could easily stick around. Take the wheels off that were stuck in the mud and check.

In case any of you cared, it was about a pound of mud stuck to the inside of one of my rims that seems to have escaped my hosing. All is good, she's smooth past 70 :-)
