I wanted to buy some rear speakers for my hatch today but I had to hold off- I dont think I have the plastic spacer insert things that came with it from the factory...do you NEED to have those in there to put speakers in? Anyone put 4x6 speakers in there without that mount?

I couldn't get the old factory speakers out of that mount,so I had to pull the entire plastic thingy, then pull the factory speakers.....but I didn't feel like putting the plastic thingy back in....just use some sort of fabric in between the metal of the speaker, and the metal of the mounting location,or you will get a HORRIBLE rattling noise....trust me,I've been there.

I used speaker baffles, proctect the speakers, and give you better sound :)

Mine uses the spacer, my sister's does not. it should work either way, as long as the holes line up.

I took out the plastic piece and 5X7's fit in the metal hole perfectly. I guess it would all depend on the speaker design though, it was a very tight fit.

My car didn't have the plastic pieces in the rear when I bought it. I bought 4x6 Blaupunkt speakers, and only 2 of the holes lined up, and it rattled horribly. I eventually just made a mounting bracket out of some particle board we had laying around the house and it works fine now.

I didn't use it, but I get that rattle too. I think I'm gonna make a gasket for it, muffle it a bit.

I took off the plastic and made 1/2" mdf mounting plates for 5.25's in my hatch
