Ive posted on many threads about how to go about fixing rust the right way when people ask about it and preaching on and on about oilspraying cars and the benefits that go with it. So here I am after mixing drinks all night at work and I have some change in my pocket so I decide on going to the car wash even though its cold.

Im spraying out the wheelwells in the back and I notice a very small hole of rust the size of a dime facing foward, down low, like where the rockerpanel and wheelwell meet. Fine, no big deal, ill get a patch riveted on and grease it right? The other side has a hole about 5 times bigger in the same spot.

Around each hole is totally solid meaning i think that it rusted from the inside. I dont know if im asking for advice or just venting- I freaking hate rust after watching it kill my old car. Ill put some pics up later of this...aside from cutting it open to see the extent of it and patching as best I can, has anyone had a repair like this done at the body shop and if so, how much did it cost? I need to take action right away before this spreads...As well I know i can have the whole damn thing cut out and new ones welded on and painted although i imagine this is very very expensive..Any experiences?

I got about a 9in^2 area by my rear fender. I rolled to the body shop yesterday and got a quote, it's gonna cost me $250 to cut that whole part out and weld a new piece in.

I hear you man, I just worked real hard to afford a second car, (the 240, and well maybe I didnt work that hard but still) and found out the whole underbody is rusting, and Im in michigan, which doesnt help the situation.

im in northern ontario and we get horrible salt in the winter..I think im going to cut the section out and rivet some sheet metal in place, using lots of grease..Sideskirts will protect the old rocker panels and i will butter them up with grease too to stop any rust where it is. I have to get it oilpsrayed again this spring and i think im very seriously NOT going to winter drive it from now on. Everything else seems solid thankfully

How about after we've patched everything up, we make sure to primer it real good so that it hopefully won't be a problem in the future.
