I have two questions about the sohc ka24 to dohc swap. I have read the write up on the swap, and was just confused about a couple of issues.

I have an 89 240sx with a blown headgasket, I have already sourced a 97 motor, I have the intake manifold from a 91 so I will be running it in full OBDI, I have the s13 dohc ecu, and ecu engine wiring harness. My questions are as follows:

for the harness that attaches to the ecu, is that seperate from the main engine harness? if so how long is it, what does it look like etc, and to top that off, if it's seperate, does anyone have one for sale?

The second question, for the engine harness, I have this mess: http://www.amackie.com/wbp/Scan92.jpg sitting at home in michigan...currently I am station in South Korea and will be home in just over one month, with about 10 days or so to do the complete motor swap and hopefully have it running before I have to move out to Washington state...Do I literally pull the entire sohc engine harness, or do I only need to splice off the various plugs throughout the engine bay? I have never rebuilt a motor before let alone swapped one and so the more and more I think about this, the more and more I am freaking out, but there is no other option right now, so it's up to me...my brother in law is a hobby mechanic, so he knows enough to help, but not the specifics on 240's...
thanks for any help you all can provide.

i have some questions about this too, i have a 91 ka motor and ive sourced a 97ka obd-ii motor from my friend. But i live in cali so emission are strick and im wondering if i have to use the s14 ecu and harness, do i have to install the obd-ii conenctor under the dash to pass smog or be compliant with cali emissions. And a few questions about the swap in general going from obd-i to obd-ii

95civicEX - You have all the wiring you need. Actually you have more than you need! All you need is the engine harness. It will just connect up to the car you should not have to do any splicing other than the small white plug that comes off the the ecu plug. For this you will need to remove that plug from the SOHC harness and just match the colors to the DOHC and wire it in. I would suggest cutting a few extra inches of wire off of the SOHC harness with the plug as it makes it easier to install back into the car. The swap is pretty easy if you get stuck drop me a e-mail at [email protected] and I'll give you my cell. I know all about those quick turnover swaps and then trying to get back to base! lol

phrozen - Dont use the ecu, wiring harness, or intake manifold from the 97. Use all those parts from your current engine and keep it odb-1. Just disconnect the harness from the engine and lay it back out of the way and you wont even need to uninstall it or the ecu. I have a 92 with a 97 KA and have done a few other similar swaps with no issue. Of course I am not in Cali but I do not see how anyone could tell what year the engine is once it is installed that way. Just say the engine is from a 93 and you should still be good.

im comtemplating the same thing.

exactly what makes ob2 different from obd1? intake manifold and what else? i thought it consisted of different wiring and ecu also but i didn't know anything else einvolved. doesn't ob2 have 2 o2 sensors on the exhaust manifold also?

im from cali also, and all the aiv valves, egr, and carbon canister is necessary. but to pass visual do you just need to make it sure everything from ob1 is theere or everything from ob2 is there. im trying to go ob1.

techincally in cali you need a certificate that says your swap is legal and you need all the shit from the later swap, including S14 cats, all evaporative, carbon canister, EGR whatever, and OBDII. cali is a bitch.

it depends if the 95 is obd I or obd II. if it is obd II you need to swap the intake manifold from the 91. if its obd I youre golden.

OK cool, good to know, I have the intake manifold from the other one, so thats cool, also how much work is it to do that cam trick with the 91 cam. its the 248/248 one IIRC, do you have to F with the shims? Sorry to get off topic
