0:00-1:40 is about the same, so you can skip to 1:40ish if you're bored.

Having a new issue with my SR, started a month or two ago.

Last couple events, every once in a while the car would fall on it's face. I'd have to shut the car off, let it sit for a minute, then start it back up and it would be fine, ready to rip. It usually smelled like fuel after it would fall on it's face and die.

Can't seem to figure out what it is. Today, I replicated the problem on the street, and this time the car started back up immediately, when i restarted it, and then was fine again.

I'm running iridium plugs that are properly gapped.
Swapped out the ignitor.
Swapped out the MAF.
It's happened on the track drifting, road racing, and then also on the street when driving very slow/chill.
I can drive 100 miles without it happening at all, it's random.

I purchased some new coilpacks as a backups just in case, but haven't installed them yet.

Can anyone make sense watching the video? Does that seem like 2cyl or 3cyl to you guys? Can you think of any problems that go away just by restarting the car?

I'm running a nistune'd ECU.

Any advice would be appreciated, I've got a drift event to leave for on Friday.

Thanks,
Ben

My car was doing this exact same thing for months couldnt figure it out for nothing. Turned out there was a short in my wiring harness from the wires being stretched. Cant say thats what is causing yours to act up but it wouldnt hurt checking.

did it fix itself when you'd restart the car?

where did you find the short?

Yea sometimes it would immediately after other times after letting sit for 20 mins or so.
I think it was in the MAF wires if i remember right.

Part of your problem is; you think after you restarted it, it was fine!
I could break it down for you but, you'd just argue, anyway!

My ka did the same thing and it turned out to be a bad fuel pump.

i've tried a different maf, maybe i'll try a third, and inspect the plug some more.

fuel pump is a walbro that's only a year and a half old. my last one i bought used, and had it for 6 years or so, i replaced it with this new one when i was trying to diagnose a different problem.

the car has done this 7 times in the past 700+ miles driven. it's hard to replicate, otherwise it runs fine.

Check the ecu for codes!
Check mafs wiring as well as the plug.

I recently had a car in with this same issue. All wiring was good in regard to MAF and CAS back to ecu. No major shorts found. Once I removed the daughterboard the car ran marginally better but the same.

Owner found a second ECU for it, and it cleared the issue up completly.

Check resistance with the CTS.

think i found my problem. there were some pieces of a latex glove in my gas tank. looks like about a fingertip worth split into like 20 pieces. fished most of them out, and no problems since.
