I currently have a t3/t4 50 trim .63 turbo, and it pulls hard up top but I really dont like the overall response of it, so im looking for a smaller turbo.

I came across a Turbonetics T3 turbo that can be built to the following specs:

T3 compressor with Super 60 Trim Wheel
3inch Inlet
Ceramic Ball Bearing with Water Cooling
F1-62mm Turbine Wheel
V Band inlet and outlet
and .65AR turbine housing

The ball bearing option would give it a tad more response, but the overall smaller size would make the biggest difference. My goal is 15PSI and to push around 300-ish HP.

Thanks for any suggestions guys! Much appreciated!

Weird... I have the same turbo.
The smaller the Exhaust housing you go the faster it will spool (but could choke out at high rpm)
I am going to get a .48a/r hopefully it will spool faster than 4k lol

He has a t3, so he probably has a t3 mani.... why would you suggest a t2???

Could you send me a pm and elaborate why?

Its just something i have noticed. I believe its due to their larger displacement. They respond to t25s better than the sr but seem to hate it when you run anything bigger than a t25 like when you get into t28s, especially the aftermarket ones.

Interesting. I've always wanted to do a 28RS/2871 Altima for a new daily driver....

Actually another thought was for me to go bottom mount with a an SR Tomei manifold converted to KA, with a Comp Turbo with the same specs as the tomei Arms 8270 (which is the largest trim GT2871r foot print turbo I have seen).

For 15psi I would be ok on it, but I agree that if I up the boost the turbo can start to chocke. The KAs flow quite a bit of exhaust compared to SRs due to the longer stroke and bigger displacement.

have you thought about a retune. if you can advance or decrease the timing pulled out under boost, it will help spool the turbo faster. the turbo you have now should be spooling at around 3k rpms and full boost by 4500 rpm. t3 .63 exhaust a/r is almost perfect for a 2.4 litter engine. unless your compression is really low.

I'm going to remove the intake manifold and block off the EGR, and redo all the hoses in there, and cap off any unused vacuum lines. I will set the timing correctly and get the car dyno tuned here at a shop. I will give it another chance.. plus it will be cheaper than re-doing everything.

Thanks for the input.

my t4 50 trim was way too responsive (.68 hotside) on my motor. Why anyone would want something "smaller" is beyond me. Switch your exhaust manifold (log) and do a full leak test if you want better response.

that super 60 is an okay turbo, very dated though. you could run a billet precision 5758 or borg warner s200 series and make a lot more power and still have good response.

way too responsive sounds like a great problem to have! I understand though depending on what kind of driving or racing you do a little lag can keep you safer though corners but there are many good boost controllers and standalones that control boost that can really allow you to calm your turbo down based on different critera:

tps
rpm
vss

So you can do boost by speed, throttle position, and rpm all independantly

true, but for a nice 10 psi daily driver I can't see how it would be that bad...considering the bottom ends aren't that strong anyway. I do understand the back pressure issue though...but hey, that makes for quick spool! LOL!
