I'm setting up a drift event in Eureka, CA with the help of DGtrials.com and I'm just trying to get a feel of how many people would be interested in attending. Cost and date are yet to be determined, but I'd like to keep the event to under 30 people so we can all get a good amount of seat time. I am also considering making it a 2-day event.

Cost estimate is $25-$50 with spectator fee/pit pass of $5

I am also working on an event in Redding, CA but that will likely be later on down the road

that'd be cool, probobly a good place to do it since there's nothing out there too. The only problem I might see is if you can actully find enough people. Because there isn't too many people up yonder, plus a 5 hour drive from San Francisco, so it'll be a long drive up there, even more so for the south bay folk. But if it's a two day event I think you might get enough people for that price. Btw, what track is up there? I didn't know they made a track that far north.

Pimp -- I always hit the twisties but I rarely come across other enthusiasts. Anyway, he can always hit me up on AIM if he wants to hit some backroads

The course is basically like an autocross -- just one where there will only be drifters and you won't get redflagged for "being out of line" ;) It is only about the size of a football feild, but because the venue is so inexpensive I've decided on it to be the place to gauge interest for DGtrials (they would like to establish a region on the west coast). The paddock has some rough sections, but the local autocross club has been able to work around them and I'm confident I can do the same. The surface of the grid will not be nice on spinning tires though -- so bring spares. I am also actively seeking larger/smoother lots, but I believe for the first "test" event we will have to deal with Samoa. There is a promising go-kart track in Redding, but we're still trying to convince them that the weight of our car's won't kill their pavement...

For that price...people will drive. Thats good that DGtrials is finally putting a thing out here now. I know JOSH would go...hes a big supporter of DGtrials out in the east coast when we were still there. IFX, slide or die and under destructions having too much fun out in NJ with drift wednesdays for freakin $20 to drift all nite long.

Alright, it's official. DG Trials is proud to announce:

Humboldt Slide: Samoan Smoke Out

This drift event will take place April 17th, at the Somoa Drag Strip venue (just outside of Eureka, CA). Gates open at 7:30am, tech at 8, drivers meeting at 9:30, and first car out by 10. Cars will be drifting throughout the day until 6pm when we shut it down. In order to ensure plenty of seat time for all, the number of entrants will be capped at 40.

Entry Fee: $40
Spectator Fee: $5

Preregistration is open and encouraged, as we will not allow more than 40 to participate. Their paypal is: [email protected]

If you'll want to spend the night, let me know and I'll try and find a floor or couch for you to crash on. Otherwise there are plenty of affordable hotels/motels in the area.

wheres Eureka? North/south?

About 200 Miles north of the bay on the coast. Basically directly west of Redding, CA

Just curious, how come they chose Eureka?

When I got red flagged at my local autocross for drifting, I decided to get an event off the ground. I talked to Erik at DG trials, and he walked me through the steps needed to get a site and attract people. I do realize the site isn't ideal, but it's is affordable and had an open calender which allowed a drift event to be here as quickly as possible. I am still actively searching for other venues, but I am too far from the bay area and Sacramento to set anything up down there. I do, however, have hopes to get a drift event at Thunderhill, but it will probably be next year as the calender is pretty full and the cost is so high that DG trials will want to be certain that there is the demand.

I also am working on getting an event in Mount Shasta -- it will be far for you guys in the bay, but still reasonable for the Sacramento folks and will be very attractive to the Oregon people

Mt. Shasta... shoot now that one has to be a full weekend thing. Shoot I'll take a Friday off before hand and make a three day weekend/vacation outta it. That should be fun. LoLz...

That coarse it sweet. The one in the pic. You have to score that place for us. I know we can get plenty of people over there if you score that coarse.

ma71supraturbo
02-26-2004, 07:09 PM
working on it. It's owned by a group of shifter kart enthusiasts and they don't like the idea of big heavy cars tearing up their asphalt -- but I think I'm making progress

And yes, spectators can pay at the gate -- the more the merrier

Anyone attending this, I have a 95 red S14 up in Eureka that I think I am going to part out, and I am going to try and make it up there for the event so if you need anything you can come by and get it after the drifting or something.

i'm curious, how did you get DGtrials to sponsor this event? I asked them about holding an event in Stockton and they said they will start a west coast division. What did you have to do? Pay for the rental of the venue? And how about insurance?

Art you just drove 6 hours to watch an event that you didn't even participate in. Stop complaining.

I'm not "complaining," I am asking for specifics about an event as none were posted.

And as far as driving 5 hours for D1 goes, it was worth it.

well the guy that set up the event could give you better information but I have been to the place many times, Its going to be in the parking lot of a drag strip, they have auto x's there too.

40 max entrants, unlimited spectators

Any pics of the venue?

Some pics I took of a January autocross held at that venue. It rains a lot here, so I'd say there is a 50-50 shot it'll be wet. I actually prefer rain cause it is way easier on the tires and a bit more exciting to watch

Cone dodging or actual track?
This event will be set up with cones. The Redding event will be on a go-kart track (see the black/white track map on page 1). I'm also working on getting a track rental in Reno, NV (1.2 mile actual road-course track), and a larger parking lot in Mount Shasta, CA.

Need more specifics if im gonna make a 5+ hour drive...
I've got a bunch of people from the bay coming, I'll try and organize a pre-event get together so youall can caravan or something. Even have one MKIV supra coming from Daly City (might interest dvdevo)...

As for getting DG trials to sponsor the event, its fairly simple. Eric Jacobs will walk you through the process, but basically you need to find a venue, get the insurance requirements and venue rental information, track down any supplies you need (radios, fire extinguishers, cones, flags, etc), and make sure you can get enough people to come to cover the costs. Basically you have to do all of the leg work to provide them with the information they need to get insurance

If you guys have any questions you want answered quickly, I'm almost always on AIM -- ma71supraturbo

03-23-2004, 06:02 PM
There haven't been any new pre-registrations in the last couple weeks and DGtrials is getting a little nervous. Tons of people say they're coming, but few have actually paypaled... But the event will happen even if 3 of my friends have to cover the cost.

$40 for prereg (paypal [email protected] ) or pay $50 at the gate... I mean I understand the drive, but this is less than 1/2 the cost of the other upcoming norcal event and will give people much more seat time...

As for tech: You need a solid battery tie down, no massive fluid leaks, no sticky throttle cable, a spare set of tires, and a helmet...
