Ok, i wana by this 91 240sx, problem is it has a broken camshaft right after the cam gear. How much would a used,or new one for the camshaft, and would anything else be wrong with the engine. The car is only 400 dollars and is in perfect shape, only 17k on it, i know thats low, but it was a old granny car. So hit me up with some ideas. and let me know how hard this is gona be to retime the car

people are lettin go of entire engines for <500 bucks, so check f/s forums and see what ya can find. either way an s13 with 17k is insane
i dont think the valves and pistons would be too happy though if the cam failed?

broken camshaft = most likely broken valves = most likely needs a new head.

otherwise you can get cams cheap from a junkyard, or maybe even me (got a couple extra cams... stock S14 232 degree, but it would hurt your performance more).

you too? mine died and it turned to be broken cams, i swapped it, broke it again, so i pulled the head, swapped in a new one and it runs great

Well I sold my s13 cams a few months ago on ebay for 100 bucks. and thats the most ive ever seen them go for. sold another set for 40, some say that all s13 are the same others say that the 91s are better, or at least thats what the guy that bought mine for 100 bucks said. cause the 40 dollar ones were off a 92. but yah might as well get a head, although if nothin else is bad, (valves and such,) a 17K head is something to hold on to, not many out there. The point of my story is, 100 dollars is the most u should have to spend, but im sure you can find em cheaper. Oh about retiming, I think after you take the bolt off of the cam, you can slide the sprocket off, just dont let the chain come off the sprocket and I think you should be fine. Dont know how much you know, because post count doesnt necessarily tell how new you are, but there is an order on how to take off the towers and put them on, dont remember how, but if you have an fsm or chiltons, Im sure it will say. One last thing, I bought A beautiful (on the inside and out) 240 from NY, BE SURE TO LOOK FOR RUST ON THE FRAME, from the outside you cant tell that my control arms can be bent by a two year old child, but they can. the underside of the car is a rust pit, just make sure you check.

Well, i dont have the money for the SR swap right now, THe underside of the car looks great, it was kept in a barn (God I love old People) anyway, i called the one junk yard, and they dont have any used heads from a 240sx, i can also get them of a DOHC 2.4 stanza, and altima right?? Thanks for your help guys. Hopefully this wont fall threw. Oh By the way i am located in PA, and i already got a down payment, so dont even think about it.

well i dont see the point in buying a older engine that has like 100k on it when the engine in the car has only 17k on it. So should i get a new head or just the dam cam, its the exhaust cam, and can i get it outa a stanza or the pickup or altima.

well.. if theres only 17k on it. and theres a broken cam.. it makes me think that it wasnt well taken care of.. (complete guess)... so you wud be just as well off swapping in an older engine.. nonetheless... 17k on the chassis is an excellent project car and definitely worth the 400.

Well accually the cam was broken becasue someone was messing with the timing and some how broke it.

find a used cam, if the valves/springs/retainers are all good.
sounds like they're still ok since the people only screwed up on the cam from trying to do timing on it.

Didnt buy it yet, got the downpayment, am still looking for a used cam, every junkyard i called, they dont have any used ka24de heads. And Harry's you pull it doesnt offer any info, so i have to go and walk through the hole import section to look for it. Which isnt good since there is snow all over the cars.

i just recently came into the possesion of a 92 coupe that was broadsided(yesterday) I will talk it over with the "owner" and see if he wants to part with the cam's or just sell it as a whole. I will let you know in the next day or 2

As far as i know the pickups were SOHC's until 97, after that i don't know, and i think the stanza's were sohc's too.
