So I recently picked up an s14. I've come across two issues so far.

1.) Whenever I drive, I hear like a clicking/grinding/hitting sound around where my differential is. I'm assuming its my differential because I had a friend drive it and he told me it was my diff, because while he drove it, I put my hand in the backseat area around where the diff is and I felt it like shaking/moving around. I've been told its fucked, dry, broken, teeth broken, bushing cracked, bolt loose, etc. Not to sure what it is. Has anyone else come across this sort of issue? Let me add that the sound is ONLY there when I'm actually driving, it disappears when it's rolling or being revved.

2.) When I drive it for a bit and part it, the scent of gasoline rolls our pretty fucking hard. So I looked under my car and I saw gasoline dripping. I've read that its usually the hose, but obviously the tank itself can't be taken out of the equation. IF it were the tank, is there a way to seal/weld it shut? Or would I have to completely replace the tank? And how much would it be if I had to? Or how much would it be to replace a hose?

Thanks in advance!

Not saying that it is, but it's possible that your rubber subframe bushing on your S14 may be bad. Usually you will hear a clunking type sound whenever you step on the gas. S14's are notorious for this problem. Click on the attached link for additional...

As for the gasoline leak, jack the rear end of the car up and crawl underneath there with a very bright flashlight. It's possible one of the gas lines underneath the car may have a cut in it from road debris kicked up while driving. If you're lucky that will be your problem..a cut/torn gas line. The S14 gas tanks are made of a pretty hard plastic and doesn't often break. If the gas tank is punctured, then best bet is to find someone in your area that is parting out a S14. You can probably work out a deal with them about the purchase price. Replacing a gas tank is a MAJOR BEYOTCH as you have to drop the rear subframe.

Anyhow, hope this helps...

Good luck!!

Your first problem was being young and dumb for buying a modded car from someone you don't know. Second you have no knowledge on how to fix or repair cars. Now your chasing gremlins because you didn't think about bringing a knowledgeable person to check out this car before you purchased it.

1st issue, why don't you try jacking up the rear end of the car, put it on stands and turn on the car and have someone slowly drive the car while its in the air and see if you can still hear that grinding noise. If so, check if there is diff oil in there. When draining oil check if there are metal fragments shavings, if there is then that is a sign that the rear diff is prob messed up.

Rear subframe bushings are a common problem with any s-chassis due to the age of the car. Usually you don't hear grinding noise if it is the rear subframe, more like it will hop and clunk.

If it is the rear diff, you can source one used from a number of places, a stock open diff is fairly cheap used esp on craigslist or on the forums.

Second issue. While the car is up in the air, why don't u try tracing where the gas is dripping from? From there you can figure out what you want to do. If its a gas line, then that's not too bad get a new line and install it. Done.

If its the gas tank, well go find someone parting out their car and buy that one, drop ur gas tank and put in the used one. Done. HOW much will this COST? It will cost you as much as you can get the parts for and your time if you do it yourself. If you bring it to a shop or mechanic be prepared to get shafted in labor charges. And I do not suggest "TRYING to PATCH" a hole/crack the on the gas tank.
