My front driver side strut is making a loud popping noise when I turn it all the way right. I had a friend turning the wheel while I looked at it and I saw that the spring and the thing the spring sits on, I thing the mount would turn everso slightly and then have a build up of pressure and then pop into place.

I then looked at the other side and saw that it was spinning freely with no noice comming from it. Does any body now if this means the mount is bad or did I not properly tighten it down when I changed shock, kyb agx, If I did not explain this well enough let me know, thanks for the imput.

you sure got a lot of questions today.

Do you hear the pop only when you turn the steering wheel? cause if that's the case, it's not your springs, it's could be your tie rod. Check to see if you didn't rip the tie rod boots.

Yeah I do, Its the weekend and I have all next week off from Classes and work. I figure I should get some things done on my car. It is only when I turn the steering wheel. the pop is deffinitly coming from the strut, at the top. the mount at the top is not turning all the way on the driverside it is only slightly moving and then pops into place. It is only one pop when I turn it all the way to the right and then one when I start turning it to the left.

you probably need these:

S13 Front Top Bearing Mount Insulator

http://www.pdm-racing.com/products/suspension.html

I have the same problem and I will be replacing them.

Does anyone know if there are better aftermarket replacements?

Go to the dealer and pick up a pair for S14, I had the same problem, and that cured it :)

If this started happening right after you chagned the springs/struts you may have improperly placed the spring on the mount. If it's placed on there a little bit "twisted" it will pop when turned.

The rubber insulators mentioned above will help to fix the problem, you can also repositions the spring on it's perch.

Get the same ones from www.nismoparts.com. I can't remember the part number right now. Just go look for them. I got them for about $65 each. The rubber is harder and the bearing is better.

if you have ground control or any other type of sleeved coilover kit with a smaller diameter spring, or brand name coilovers, you can use pillow ball mounts which have camber adjustments and they get rid of the rubber and make your struts work better.

I am about to change the springs one more time, if this doesnt work I will probably get the ones from nismo parts. by the way how do you know if its properly placed on there. thanks

I'd have to look at the KYBs or the stock strut housings. The perch should have a lip on it that the coil rests against to hold it from moving around and popping while turning.

Then I had them in right, I have changed the struts and springs on many of these before, I probably just have a bad strut mount, is there a draw back to using a used one or is there a way to go aftermarket.

Techno Toy Tuning (http://www.technotoytuning.com) sells pillowball upper mounts for a good price. I'd look into those for your suspension clunking needs.

please refresh my memory what exactly do the pillow uper mounts do, and can they be adjustable.

they replace your upper shock mount with solid metal. they have camber adjustment also. You cant use them with regular springs, you have to have small diameter springs like ground control, or brand name coilovers.

Mr. Spool I am having the same problem.. I think... it is making a muffled clunk/noise when I turn or go over a bump. Except mine doesn't do it just ONCE, it sometimes makes that noise several times. Tell me how your turns out, I am going to take it off this weekend and see also. Thanks.

I will let you know, I am pretty sure that it is the strut mount, But I will let you know when I get it taken care of. Does anybody know if the adjustable strut towers effect ride quality.

no it made my ride quality better but they wont fit with your eibach's anyways. The reason i'm saying it made the ride better is because there is no more rubber than takes away from the dampning effect of your strut. Now the strut is doing it's job more efficiently cause it's the only thing compressing.

thats to bad it wont fit, does anybody see a problem with using a used mount, or is there some benifit in going with a nismo mount
