So, like the title says I just had a new Spec Stage 1 clutch kit put into my '93 240 with a KA engine/tranny. A day or two after getting it in I noticed a clicking/ticking type noise when I put the car in neutral. It almost sounds like the sound that semis make when idling. Anyway, when I push in my clutch the noise goes away. So, I'm thinking that the shop I went to must've screwed something up with the new throw-out bearing install. So I went back to the shop and had my mechanic take a listen to it. He seemed quite sure that everything was fine and told me it's just the TO bearing knocking against the splines of the pressure plate and that it would go away eventually after it gets "worn in".
I dunno about that since I'm at about 350 or so miles on the new clutch kit and the noise hasn't gone away. So I'm wondering if anyone else with one of these kits has experienced this noise also when it was new or if I should still be worried. :ugh:

How did you break your clutch in? how many miles were you easy on it?
It definitely sounds like the TO bearing though....

Broke the clutch in by driving nice and easy, never really even going over 4k RPM's. Drive around Chicago so it's mostly all city/stop-and-go driving.
Other than the goofy knocking noise, though, the clutch and tranny shifts fine. I'm thinking I'll give it to about 500 miles and if it's still knocking take it back to the mechanic to get that sh!t fixed.

500 miles is the suggested time to break a clutch in ....also if you love your car learn to do stuff yourself that way you know what to listen/look/feel/and blame ...plus it saves more money for parts

I do alot of stuff myself when I can but living in an apartment in Chicago makes it kinda hard to drop a tranny in the middle of January. :) I know what to listen/look/feel and blame but just thought I'd see if anyone else has had this happen to them as well since this is the first time I've had a new clutch put into a 240.
I'm also personal friends with the mechanics at that shop and they've been in business for over 20 years just working on imports so I'm inclined to believe what they say but.. ya know, this knocking thing just doesn't seem right and I'm paranoid about stuff working correctly on my car. Especially when I pay someone to do the work.

Wait, so it IS a big deal or it isn't? The way you worded it it sounds like it's not a big deal since you said "but it does get annoying" but then you said that "Its really a big deal".
I can live with an annoying noise if it's not doing any real damage :)
