Just did an auto to manual ka-E to DE swap in an 89 coupe. As soon as i plug the positive wire on the battery the car will automatically crank over with out a key in the ignition? Any help? Thank you in advance.

im guessing something with your ignition relays. electrical is a pita. try to go through and check your acc harness.

Could the starter be wired wrong?

Could the starter be wired wrong?
Yea lol, sounds like starter is recieving constant 12v source,
but without the ignition in the on position, it shudnt run and idle...

umm? it has one wire and a ground?
you have all 3 connections together? the only reason it would start is if the wiring is wrong and its bypassing all your ignition relays. so the starters not wired wrong, but something else is. snap some pictures of the engine bay, might be something obvious to some other people here.

39588not sure how the starter should wired? Should there be a ground on the starter off of that thread?

All u should have is 2 wires going to ur starter, the big terminal on ur solenoid is the main feed for the starter and should be going straight to battery, then u have a smaller gauge wire which goes to ur ignition switch which only recieves 12v upon cranking, very strong possibility that u picnhed that wire somehow and its receiving constant 12v, only wire that makes starter kick on

Just ended up buying anew starter which inturn fixed the constant 12v. But not the engine is timed, cranks and has spark. But no start up.

Sounds like you hooked the power from the alternator to the starter lol
