ive decided to weld on one or two cats to my s13 to get it to pass smog and i need a place near south orange county to do it. if you know of any muffler shop and can get me a price quote for one or two cats plus service welding it on i would greatly appreciate it.

Why dont you just call a shop yourself and get a price and all the info. when it comes to muffler shops there is not to much difference.

Why weld? Did you strip the studs or nuts on the original cat? Usually getting a new cat (you only need one) will already help significantly with emissions... I would recommend saving some money and just getting one.

for some reason i thought they needed to be welded on...your saying i could just bolt a new cat right on with no mods at all?

If your exhaust is bone stock then yeah. I don't see why you need two cat converters though... Just fill your car up with 91+ octane and keep the car warm when you take the test. The shop that I took my car to was nice enough to remind me to leave my car on. The smog technician didn't even bother to pop my hood for visual inspection.

oh yeah, i forgot why i needed it to be welded...because i need 2 cats...for extra significance in passing.

I honestly don't know how much benefit in terms of smog #s you would gain from using 2 cats...
I still say go with one and use the money that would otherwise have gone into the cat/labour/custom exhaust (since you can't have 2 cats and retain the stock exhaust) and use it to invest in a new air filter, some automotive electric contact cleaner (to clean your Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAFS)), a new PCV valve, some new spark plugs, a new distributor cap and rotor, and a set of new spark plug wires.
Then, invest some time to clean your EGR/AIV (whichever one it was that is a pain to take off/put on!).

That is almost guaranteed to make your car pass smog!

runs some seafoam through the tank and crankcase, only 2/3 of the bottle tho so you dont clog the o2 sensor or cat. Then run your car with a full tank of 91+ octane just to clean out the motor a little. then run it hot when you go there so it will burn all the fuel

well i had a new cat installed and welded on and took it to the smog shop...didnt help one bit so now i know its a fuel problem. i am about 9% over the max in CO and a little over max in HC. i also noticed that my car idles weird... it fluctuates between 800 and 1000 rpm making a repetitive "voom" sound. my friend's EG also does this and he claims it's "sort of normal". my dad's friend who is a mechanic looked at the car and he thinks it's the fuel pressure regulator that's the problem. my question is, how hard would it be to install a new fpr and should i just have a shop do it for me?
thanks,
