View Full Version : How will this fit? *Noob*

I'm looking at buying this S13 soon, and it's currently sitting on stock wheels with 100% stock suspension...
My intentions were to pickup some Tein S Tech lowering springs (Coilovers just aren't for me), and have the car sit on XXR 962's (17x9 +35) all around. And as for tires 245/45/17 maybe a bit wider if that's gonna have too much of a stretched looked (also not for me). Will this fit good with the amount of offset those wheels have? Any advice you guys can give me I'd appreciate it.
*Flaming is welcome :)
Thanks

No way that'll fit, what's wrong with the stock wheels/suspension? Just leave those on there and call it a day

Stock wheels :nono:
Stock suspension, I can live with I just want to be a bit lower and some lowering springs will do the trick. Not much of a coilover person.

Might be interested in the tein lowering springs... are they the s-tech lowering spring? I have 2 friends with s-techs and they are pretty good. I don't want to lower my car too much and those lower the car about 1.5". Not interested in the wheels, sorry.

Yeah I said that because I've been in cars with coilovers before and the ride quality is complete shit. Not for me :) and yes I mostly just want to go for looks right now... the 240 I'm looking at is just a stock KA with a CAI and exhaust... so as for performance... I don't give a damn. Once it's faster I'll care more about performance.

Thats because you've ridden on shit quality coilovers. Lemme know how it feels slapping lowering springs on the original stock shocks. I bet the it wont be too far off the shitty coilovers you've ridden in.

true, im curious to what kind of "shitty" coilovers that he has ridden on....i know ive had Tein SS coilovers on my Z and it did exactly what it was intended to do....drive like a damn go cart....then i had BC coilovers on my sc400 set to super stiff, and it was the most comfertable ride ive ever had....now i have Tein CS coilovers on my gs300, and it is an incredibly comfertable ride to me....NOOOOBBBSSSSSS!!!!!! as far as the stretch goes, 245 is not a stretch at all on a 9 inch rim....i have 245s (federals) stretched on my 19x11s and its a decently aggressive stretch...you want a decent stretch on 9s put a 215 on...but if your trying to avoid the stretch look...stick with what you got

I've ridden in a couple... Sorry I can't tell you what brand but in each case my friends have dropped anywhere from 750-1000 on the coilovers.

Well I know they paid a pretty penny for their coilovers maybe it was something else causing shitty ride quality... Then again I'm used to cars with super soft suspension.

I've been talking to more people and I'm gonna go with a 245/45 or 245/40 depending on how much gap I want when it's lowered.

I just want to be lowered a bit and being flush or not doesn't bother me too much.

245/45 will rub when turning for the fronts. Go with 225-235 width for the front. Plenty of tire for a stock 240. I run 235front and 255 rears. Both on 18x9 mb interline wheels. +25 I believe. The rears are pretty close to the fenders. the front with a 15mm spacer are close enough to the front fenders for me. I HATE the stretched look. I don't want to pull a tire off the bead when cornering. I saw it happen past week to someone's front tire. It sucked watching them slide int a curb and fuck their car badly. For suspension I run Eibach sportlines and Tokicko blue struts. I don't care what people sat about Eibach, my car rides very nice and with my sway bars it handled wonderfully.

750 - 1000 is definitely on the LOW end of coilovers. Probably Megan or equivalent.

Okay gotcha, I'll give 235 a shot!

Yeah it is on the lower end... But then again I've seen some truly shitty coilovers that are under $500 lol.

Adjustable coil overs are a waste of money on a daily driver. If you spend under $1500 on them they won't last. A real set costs $2k. And be ready to rebuild every couple years. A well matched spring/strut combo is what you want. Nismo has a matched set that is amazing. Non adjustable. Expensive but worth it. They will also rebuild and revalve for $50 each.

Yea it's going to be my daily driver for college everyday... (40 miles total there and back + other driving). And actually I talked to a friend that has Eibach sportline springs and KYB AGX shocks and he says he loves them. It gives a little more drop than the S Tech springs which I originally intended to pickup. He also says on the stiffest setting on the agx shocks you could break a neck lol. Guess that is the setup I'm going for... It's cheap and I'm getting what I want.

Wrong, Teins are probably some of the lowest springs you can get. Definitely lower than Eibach Sportlines. You want something lower than Teins, see if you can find Tanabes. I cut a coil and half on my Eibach Sportlines to get them low enough for me back in the days.

I cut 3/4 of a coil off to eliminate the softer part of the progressive rate.
This is how mine sits.

That's exactly how I want my car to sit! I don't want it slammed but I don't want stock ride height.

Houston road can suck pretty bad, I don't like a slammed car. Too much money and time to keep it aligned how I want. Still won't be a good geometry. People are surprised how well my car handles for a cheap setup. I have tension rods, sways, springs and struts. Most of the handling difference I saw was from new bushings, (I have a mix of OEM rubber and poly with radial holed drilled in them) and new tires.

Yea I heard that new bushings helps alot on these 240's especially on the high mileage ones with shot bushings haha.

17x9 you say?
run 225/45/17's on there, it's plenty of grip with stock power.
if not....
235/40/17 or 245/40/17 if you really want to go wider tires.

Yea 17x9... I'm trying to avoid 40mm sidewall... I'm gonna go through tires a lot and thicker sidewall=cheaper tire :)
