View Full Version : Miata battery + efan = fail?

Hey guys...so I just finished my swap and the car is running pretty well...except that the miata battery I grabbed instead of relocating keeps draining...I think it may be because in my lack of knowledge and patience I wired the power line for the fans directly to the battery...
My questions being, am I right, and what is a better way to wire it in?

It wouldn't matter if you have a deep cycle on there, if you have a drain you have a drain, regardless.

Google ways to test for battery drain, it'll be quicker than me explaining it to you. If you don't have the tools (either a test light or a DMM) then buy one anyway.

As far as wiring a fan direct, why on earth would you do that? You want to utilize a relay, and a switch of some sort (toggle, thermostatic, or other) to signal it on. Again, google how to wire one in, and adapt it as you go.

Okay I didn't clarify, it runs from fan to a switch and then to battery...I'm reaaally bad at electrical stuff and I was doing the whole thing alone so I did it as simply as I could

Even still, I'd take the few seconds to google a 'e fan setup' or similar to see how others have it routed. You shouldn't hardly ever source direct from the battery unless emergency or if you know what you are doing.

not sure how much your fan pulls as far as amps, but i would use a relay to send power the the fan

You have to program it...read the directions and follow them exactly.

Don't rely on the knobs to be entirely accurate, turn on your car, let it run to noraml operating temp, and turn the knobs until the fans kick on.

I think it's better than having to remember to turn on a switch inside your car, or having to rely on one of those cheap "stick in radiator probes".
