View Full Version : SR20DET Hydrolocking

So I installed a Freddy intake, primed the fuel a few times, tried starting the car, then clunk, 2&3 cylinders were full of fuel and Iacv had fuel in it as well, so I cycled the fuel outa the cylinders and drain then iacv and oil since it has fuel in it.

Changed my injector orings and oil, car started up, drove it around the block, and it ran fine, although it did bog a lil bit when coming to a stop.

Next day I trailered it to my drift even, got a few good runs in the morning. My friend asked me for a ride to RadioShack for a resister for his injector, so I took him in with the SR, I did knotice after a few slides and getting it warmed up, I was idling at 2000, then it would got back to 900. On the way back from RadioShack I had a backfire and then the car ran like shit and finally died!

Same symptoms as before. So I got picked up and got my truck and trailer, towed the car back to the event, had a friend with more experience to check it out. He had me cycle the fuel out, then he pulled my fuel rail and primed it, no leaky injectors! Then he had me crank it, the injectors didn't have mist, they were showering fuel........


So what are your thought?


Bad TPS? I was at .30 close and 3 open, after adjustment now I'm .45 at close throttle and 4.15 at open throttle

Bad engine temp sensor? Car heated up just fine.... Didn't stay cold

Bad maf?? I cleaned it with maf cleaner...

So should I try to run it again or what? I don't wanna keep fucking up my motor

Not much, but I really don't think the freddy is the cause.... So hopefully I can be enlighten with a solution to my problem.

If you were told your injectors don't spray correctly, why would you think any of that quoted is the problem? Fixing the tps voltage is not going to fix the injector spray pattern. Check your fuel pressure or if you know you cheeped out on the injectors start there!

And NO don't run it, until you're sure you tackled the issue. You do know fuel doesn't compress, right?

Thanks for the input, my fuel pressure is at 40, it's not like one was only spraying incorrectly, they all are, so I figured if one of the quotes were incorrectly reading higher airflow, then the ecu tried to keep the up with the fuel

My car ran fine before the intake swap, I just had blown turbo seals, so I only had smoke at idle

My injectors are stock 370cc, maybe they need to be recalibrated? I did hammer the brackets for the fuel rail to fit and the injectors were in it when I did this

If ur injectors are spraying messed up then period thats the issue
did u hydro lock again?
I would put a new set of injectors and start from there
this happened on my first sr swap 5 yrs ago...
Changed injectors and rail w new orings and it was good
also stock fuel psi is 43-48 psi

Ok I'm getting another injector to plug up to compare, also with my walbro I was told to put in a 15watt fuse instead of a 10watt

Ok so what's the spray pattern look like? All 4 of mine are like a V and sprays equally

After making my adjustments to the tps and cleand the maf, I checked out the injector spray pattern and it looks normal
I have a video I can text you if you wanna see, I'm just waiting for my video to upload to YouTube

Anyone lead me in the right direction how to check voltage on the cts and maf. Also know what the voltage should be?

Download an FSM and follow the troubleshooting advice.

Injectors are spraying all at the same time, shouldnt it be in a certain order?

Pull the vac line off of the fuel pressure regulator, prime the fuel pump. See if the diaphragm is leaking. (fuel coming out the vac. port)

If they all fire at the same time, you are set. These cars are batch fire, not sequential.
