Hey guys, I picked up an old s13 that had been sitting in a barn for 6 years a few weeks ago and am just now starting to work on it.
After cleaning out the tank, new fuel pump, new plugs the car would start but wouldn't idle on its own without dying. I cleaned out the iacv, checked the injectors and for vacuum leaks and it seemed fine. Did a compression test today and found one cylinder had only about 60 and the others around 120. I took off the valve cover just to take a look and the cam lobes look good and the valves don't seem to stick. Poured some oil in that first cylinder and am waiting to recheck the compression. Pretty sure its rings or some major problem in the bottom end.
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself on here and show the car. Its just a sohc so I'm not sure if I want to put the money into rebuilding it. This is just going to be a project car for me anyway so I'm not sure what option I want to go with yet. The car is an auto so if I rebuild and go ka24et I would have to buy a 5 speed swap anyway. I was thinking about waiting till a dohc already turboed comes up or just a dohc in good condition and eventually do it myself. I don't really want to rb swap, but if someone local has an sr20det that would probably be my best option. My power goal is around 350rwhp so I was just seeing what my best option/ most cost effective option would be.
Here's just a quick picture I took of the car.

Barn finds are only superceeded in greatness by the unmatched cool of a rebuilt single cam hammer.
I tip my hat to you.

Good Luck, looks to be a good non molested chassis, i'm in the process of building a single cam turbo setup. My only problem is which car to throw it in my S13 or 510. :hyper:

I say put it back in the barn, and take it out in 20 years..
I guarantee this will decimate all, after, you put about fifteen grand in it or more

nice find, i see the front end doesn't match and you have a chuki fender, accident?
for sitting in a barn for six years it looks to be in great condition, any kind of rust under the car?

What are your intentions for the car? Track, Street, weekend cruiser? I think you should figure that out otherwise youre just gonna end up throwing money at it..

To my knowledge it hasnt been in an accident and yeah no rust! The front doesn't match the fenders? are they from a later year?

Well the trans is bad too so I might as well 5 speed swap since there's no point in putting in another automatic. So around how much would building a ka24et be compared to an sr swap? I see from the vendors on here a complete swap is like 4k

I just want a weekend car, pump gas, and maybe drift it once and awhile at the few events that come up in oklahoma. My goal is around 300-350rwhp, but i would settle for the lower end of that if it means less turbo lag and more power available at the throttle

Get your car running and enjoy driving it, KA-T parts are cheap (cheap as in used parts) internals, good turbo and good tuning you have to spend some $$$$ on. a 5 speed swap is less than $500 if you hunt down you'llfind good prices.
looks like the fenders were replaced but a good body shop should be able to re-align it for you.

Save up buy an sr, put an s15 turbo, s15 injectors, 300zxmaf, enthalphy tune. Thatll give you 330 to the wheels. Remember to swap out the hg if you gonna go over 300hp.
Btw sick coupe :)

I would do KA-T for now; get everything else how you want it and then look for an SR. I mean just because it's a "goal" don't make it first priority.

Awesome! I found my 89 hatch, bone stock it had been sitting in the desert rotting for 6 years. I pulled the single cam and its getting a full rebuild set up for turbo. I love to see clean cars that havent been touched, and single cam slammers built up! do it!
