I've searched several times but haven't found anyone that has had a similar problem to this. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs, checked the ignition coil, replaced the fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter, replaced 02 sensor, cleaned the MAF, calibrated the TPS, and replaced vacuum tubes but still can't seem to fix it. The idle usually bounces around 12k-15k rpm's. I had adjusted the idle before, and the car was working great on a test drive, but after sitting at idle for about 5 minutes, it started to idle like it was previously and started flooding out again. I tried adjusting the idle again, but turning the idle adjustment screw appears to make no difference now.

Usually when its flooded, I can pull the fuse on the fuel pump and start it up, and it'll run for a few minutes that way. Should this be happening?

It also boggs down when you give it gas. I checked the fuel pressure, and it was constantly between 40-50psi.

The vacuum on the regulator would stay at about 20 at idle, when you give it gas, while it boggs down it loses most pressure until rpms go up. keeping the rpm's steady the vacuum on the regulator would be about 23. Does anyone know what this vacuum is supposed to be doing?

Any one have any suggestions? Sorry for such a long post. I'm running out of ideas on how to fix this. I think the fuel pressure is that high because it is idling faster. I'm kinda hoping its something simple im just overlooking, but...i don't know.

Thanks in advance.

How can your idle be at 12k-15k?

Check your hot cold sensor in the bottom radiator hose. That may be why its flooding if it is jacked up. Idle no clue.

How can your idle be at 12k-15k? oops....i meant 1200-1500 rpm's.

Check your hot cold sensor in the bottom radiator hose. hmmmm....hadn't thought about that yet. thanks.

how do you adjust the idle? cuz mah idle is hella low. so low that sometimes it juss hits 0 ans stalls heh

You can adjust it some with the throttle cable. Thats how I did mine but it only needed minor adjustment. IMO

heh..how do you do that? lol sorri for stealing the thread..but i really want to get this fixed thanx.

Where the cable meets the Throttle body there is a bracket that the cable bolts on to. Loosen the back nut and tighten the front nut against the bracket. So it pulls the throttle just a little test it before taking off in it so it doesn't idle to high. make sure it operates correctly yahta yahta......

heh..i found out the nuts on the thottle cable the thread in it was stripped..i have no clue why..so..have ta think "ghetto" lol and I juss got a thick zip tie and raised the the throttle..and tighten the bottom nut. and the throttle wire tight on the bracket..mah car is now revin up fine..and good..it idles at nothing lower than 800 to 1100 rpm..runs very nice..thanx to bone..mah car is now runnin well. needa tell peeps bout this hehe..or charge them jk..

any other ideas? ......anyone?

correct me if im wrong, but im not sure that is actually adjusting the idle. shortening the throttle cable will cause it to always give the engine a little more gas all the time, and the car will run at a higher rpm, but it would be like always pushing the gas pedal just a little.
but if it works, then..... sure.

Have you checked your injectors?

I don't think its the injectors cuz the motor was supposedly "rebuilt" 18k miles ago, and the injectors all look new. So i would think that those are ok. I'm gonna see if it is throwing any errors, and then check the temp sensor in the lower radiator hose. Hopefully after those I'll have a better idea of what to do next. I'm gonna try to get it done this weekend. (been busy with school)

Thanks

are you talking about the coolant temp sesnor? How will this make the car flood?

Thanks
