ok... got hit driver door and quarter panel.... body shop says they can't pull out part of the quarter panel to bondo it so they'll have to replace it... he said it would cost $3800 to fix my 91 240.. thats a little bit too much and I know insurance will salvage my car if I report it. Is there any way to under-report it? or get the insurance company to pay me enough so that they don't have to salvage it? Everything is perfect... Ive been driving it for 2 months cept there is that dent... dont want to salvage such a rare beautiful car just because some dumb ass dented my door.

is it just your door, or is it in the main body behind the door?
I say, if it is just the door, go to the junkyard and replace it...

its the door and part of the quarter panel... he hit me right smack between the door and the quarter panel... thats why they cant pull it out cuz its dented on the corner where the quarter panel goes inside the door.

have insurance company pay you off, and opt to keep the car, they'll deduct some, but you get to keep your ride, and get some money.

I don't know what the title/insurance laws are in cali but in FL if your vehicle is a total and the cost of repairs is 80% or more of the value of the vehicle then the vehicle is branded with a Certificate of Destruction title and you can not register the vehicle. $3800 sounds expensive you should call around to local salvage yards to see if you can get a used quarter panel. Probably around $300 bucks. If you have a coupe and the damage to the quarter panel is contained to the lower part the should be able to to a belt-line section (cheaper than welding the entire qp in).

same thing happened to me and she said it would total it if they replaced the 1/4 so she wrote the price down as pulling it and bondo'in it and I took the check and I'm just buying another 240 (1100 dollars of damage that way) and makin it my sweet car and driving mine with the dents. if only I could figure out how to make the driver's door open....
mine was hit the same, driver's door and 1/4 panel.
