Knock-off Kouki Tails

Thought I'd share my shot at making some fake Kouki tail lights. I bought some new ebay euro's pretty cheap from a seller on here. These ones. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/89-94-NISSAN-S13-180SX-240SX-TAIL-LIGHTS-LAMP-JDM-BLACK-/180735196040?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3A240SX&hash=item2a14a83b88&vxp=mtr#ht_4991wt_1047) I removed all the plastic lens to do some painting and re-seal with silicon. I masked off and painted the center garnish as best I could to resemble the 180sx piece. And painted the center red circle on the tail lights to make only 2 on each side. I just finished wrapping them in red vinyl and rewiring them tonight. I thought it turned out pretty good. It looks better than my cracked and faded stock tails, so I figure I'll rock these until I can afford the real deal.

Just finished up and it started raining. Didn't stop me from getting some shots though.

I have no IDEA how technologies work, but I DO know that when I search for "eBay Kouki tail lights" it's easier if there are only a few threads, each with many pix, than 700 different threads, with only a few pix each, and 300 replies of dudes saying "that's dope". The more redundant threads we have, the more UN-user friendly this site becomes.

The one with the vinyl overlay looks better, painting it makes it look like doo-doo. Come to think of it, might look better painting the euro tails from the inside, instead of the outside. Might make it look cleaner.

Hatchback noobs listen closely. You have 2 options for tail lights. Stock zenki/chuki OEM tail lights or OEM kouki tail lights. Thats it! Or if you want to venture off into the realm of BOSS, you can modify your stockers and plug in a custom cut clear prismatic piece.

I agree 100% with what Corbic has said, yes many of us are a little bit older than we were when we got into this, but over the years I think many of us have learned plenty more than some guy that just joined last month. I have had MANY cars from Evo's and 350z's to trucks and grocery getters, and one thing I have realized is that the 240sx is one of the best bangs for the buck out there. Since these cars are no longer "new" and they're getting used and abused, the paint and all the plastic in the car is all wearing away. Take a 240, if you take the time to maintain, paint, replace lots of parts - then the value goes up. Now, I'm sure a modified car will have a difficult time selling... that I absolutely admit, because selling old modified cars and making a profit is not a realistic expectation. there is a difference between damaging a tail light and damaging the entire rear end of your vehicle. if you pro-drifters are so hardcore AND concerned about costs, then why not do this. Here's my suggestion for all you hardcore fucking proam formula deeznuts1 drift kings:
1) First and foremost, stop fucking crashing your piece of shit car
2) remove your stock tail lights
3) cut some sheet stock to size, insert truck/trailer circular lights. they are dirt cheap and guess what, they come in LED too in case you want to be BALLER

why dont we make threads about anything thats expensive and complain. we can complain to the brits about why the Mclaren F1 is sooo expensive, wah wah wah. you dont like the fucking price of something, move the fuck on. never in my life have i ever complained about volk wheels costing what they cost, or turbos, or anything. it costs what it fucking costs. if you cant afford it, dont buy it and shut the fuck up.

Lolol it's because most the dipshits in the 240 scene are fucking cheap. I can't believe how shitty the scene has become in such a short time. Even though I've had thoughts of returning to the 240 scene because it's a great platform to work on, I see the cheap fucks that have become a plague to the community and want nothing to do with that. It's not hard to make a nice car, but half the people on here seem to think they will be the next formula d superstar and daily a giant piece of shit.

Are you stupid? Do you know what turn key means? YOU bought a turn key swap when you bought a front clip. Turn key means you have EVERYTHING needed for the build so you don't have to source shit. It's ready for you to put it in over a weekend and drive.
