ive search enough and the answers i found were heatshields.lifter noise and timing chain rattle. never found the answer im looking for so i decided to give it a try and post this here. pls post useful answers based on personal experience.

upgrade
195k ka24e auto
cai injen intake
obx header (no more heatshield)
cs cat back exhaust

this is a dd car that dont see any aggressive driving. it drives on average 15 miles from work to house

rattling noise on low rpm between 1k-2k rpm. only happens when theres a load (cruising around the streets but gone on the freeway). i raised the car up on jackstand tried to simulate cruising speeds but no noise. i thought it was lifters but what i read from other owners that noise makes louder the higher rpm goes but mine doesnt do that. at start up it is quiet as hell. even i tried to flick the tb sound is not even there. replaced my oil from 10-30w to 10-40w and hoping it was there still there. if i do have an oil pressure car would make noise all across rpm right?

so im asking just throw some idea that where to look.

thanks

So crazy, I've been searching left an right and I'm having the same issue with my de. It almost sounds like a car that's stalling and gets that rattle revive noise. But ongoing. Happens a lot at low speeds like 25-35 in 4th/5th.

Other cars I've owned usually shake when under load at low rpms especially w mounts. This seems different I do have the notorious chain tensioner issue that I'm too lazy to fix (marbles in a can sound at idle), and I'm guessing it's this that causes the chain to knock, throwing off my cel as well. So much to take into consideration and I hope someone else chimes in about this aswell. More annoyed than worried

thanks for posting up. i think i found my problem. i found the ac line and the metal pipe that connects to the downpipe rubbing. check your heatshields if they are loose, those are common issue with rattling noise.

Did it happen to you when you were cruising though? It might be the problem now that you mention it since i have straight 2.5" piping back from the stock headers, with the heat shield on them. Going to check this heat shield after work and report back

mine does it when it accelerates. i already adjust the pipe ill test the car later thru the day.

Looked around my bay. Banged on shit. Nothings loose. Im convinced its drivetrain related when under low rpm load. The search forever continues

thanks for the input. hitting that egr tube makes the same sound as a heatshield when it rattles. have you ever fixed it?
