so i have a 95 5 speed ecu im not sure if its obdI or obdII. i have a 97 240 and someone told me that i needed a 97 ecu so that my car would past smog or something like that. i know that i need an obdII ecu for my car but i was wondering if it has to be the same year to past smog or can i just get any year ecu that is obdII. also is does anyone one know how i can find out if its obdI or obdII. the 95 240 change from obdI to obdII in the middle of the year right?

if i were you id just unplug your battery (wait a little while) and then try and plug it in. if its an obdI ecu, it should throw a code or something and a check engine light should come on or something. if its an obdII ecu, nothing should happen. btw... you can use any year ecu so long as its obdII.
There are other Forums open right NOW talking about the OBDI & II issue...
If you compair the 96 book with the 95 book you will notice
The 95 has a 1 wire O2...
The 96-97-98 have 3 wire O2's... And they are all OBDII
Also I guess check your immisions sticker under the hood it should say... (I cant confirm this untill I go home to look at my 95)
