Since I haven't been able to locate an HLSD from S15 yet, but i have seen people selling the innards from said diff, is it possible to install the guts into S13 VLSD?

Yup you can. Get output shafts with it and you are set. There are some threads out there about this.

I'll search for that. Thanks for the response. Is there a way i can properly identify the guts so i can be sure that they are the real thing? IIRC, there are 3 different S15 diffs...

the s15 helical LSD should look like this:

And you just put all of that above into the S13 pumpkin... One of the best LSDs for sure...

I believe it, but not easy to find in USA. There are some on eBay but seller in Japan. Might have to spring for it anyways. Would i follow the s13 fsm, or s15? For tolerances and such?

the install procedure is the same for all diff units.
i installed an s15 hlsd in an s13 pumpkin before and reused the s13 diff shims and ring gear. works perfectly to this day.

I believe that makes it a normal gear set inside instead of clutch packs and liquid. H is helical, i think its a strong quiet gear, cut at a kinda spiral o: or something like that.
This sounds like a neat mod, if its less than half of a Kaaz or what ever LSD brands are big now then sounds like a deal even if you have to track one down back to japan lol. Does the final drive gear fit the same as a 13? I heard they are different per chassis, if they are interchangeable would be a cheap fun way to experiment :naughty:

what is the purpose of this thread
i mean, its been discussed to death before.

It's a taller ratio compared to s13 and 14 which works out great for me as well as hlsd. 3.69:1 vs 4.08:1.
Ixfxi, everything has been talked about somewhere else at some other time in some other country. We're not omniscient, if we were we wouldn't need to talk about anything ever.

more noobness in this thread now, sorry, but a higher gear ratio increases top speed nd smaller increases acceleration, right? or do i have them backwards? and deffinately considering a hlsd now thanks

Gears are shorter,i had the complete full s15 diff in my sr 6 speed ,sr 5 speed,rb and ka,has a nice acceleration

if you are putting a hlsd into your s13 differential you will not change the gear ratio since you bolt the s13 ring gear onto the hlsd unit and use the pinion in the s13 differential. check the backlash when installing but it shouldnt need any shims/adjusting.

So much wrong info in this thread. lol
The guy above me is right a differential doesn't dictate gearing, it's the ring gear bolted to it and the pinion gear in the pumpkin. S15 hlsd's use spider gears not clutch packs or viscous fluid. They also regular gear oil changes. Not something you can put in and run for 20k without changing fluid.
I had a s15 hlsd in an s13 pumpkin with 4.36 ring and pinion in my s14. I also used a ka tranny on my sr with this it was pretty incredible. No stupid rubber front mounting points like an s14 pumpkin and slightly longer gear ratios in the ka tranny vs the sr one balanced out the 4.3 nicely.

Thanks for the link, next time I'll search. Usually i do but it was an impulse post. My bad. Have a nice day!

So either i acquire the whole diff, or swap over all the components to change the ratio? I'm trying to get the taller ratio and the hlsd as dual purpose.

eBay My World - duax_machine (http://myworld.ebay.com/duax_machine/?_trksid=p4340.l2559)
search his items, you'll find an S15 HLSD for sale. gordon duax is #1, he sells a lot of good parts and they've all been insanely cleaned (hot tanked I believe) and inspected. i purchased my s15 diff from him years ago.
located in texas too.

i thought so too, thanks.
actually, i am doing it more for gordon than I am for you. i only bought from him a few times, but can tell you that he's a straight-up seller that sells GOOD SHIT, which is why i linked to his e-bay for sale page. all i can tell you is that if/when you buy a diff from him, you'll open the box and say DAMN that thing is clean. not a drop of oil or dirt.

Great, now I'll search to see if i can also find a way to swap to a taller ratio ring gear and pinion since i will be opening it up. I'm sure it's been done and documented already.

Dammit you beat me to it. OP I used this guide to install my S15 diff into my open diff. First time ever working on one went smoother than hot oil on glass.

I would rather just find the whole diff but the shops i talked to say they're not easy to come by. Bc I'm going to use s14 subframe as well. Taller gearing needed for my motor/tranny setup. So I'm assuming the hlsd can swap into other r200 cases if need be. I'll figure something out though.

whole diff is not ideal due to the speed sensor in the diff, i think?
unless you plan on going ALL s15 (motor and trans)
its recommended to just take the guts and move on

Well I've got vq35 installed, but no driveshaft until i figure out the diff. Haven't entertained the thought of z33 diff yet bc it is not sexy like s15 diff, and it can drive my speedometer signal. I have an s13 vlsd but it is now open diff dead lsd. = not awesome
