This is the kind of people that give us bad names.

Al,
I know you're sweet on the corners, and you are a really good driver, But as I recall you've been to a few of those drift meets yourself.
And I hope you aren't trying to preach to all the drifters, when you, I think, know every single place in the bay area that's good for drifting.
How many nights a week do you go out drifting on public streets.

Sorry Al, I didn't see this response. I was there, and yeah I remember that one. That's why I stopped going to the actual drifting meets. I'll stick to the BBQ meets.
Once again, sorry for my previous comment, and I really do agree with him that drifting should be left to small groups of about 3 to 4 cars. Anything bigger and you're looking for trouble.
Now just going for a drive, that's kewl.

lol. whatever you say man. and in reply to your post. this forum mostly is ok but whenever someone wants to setup a drive they get flamed. You're right about idiots showing up cause last time i set up a meet on craigslist idiots showed up. One guy flipped his car. But it's his responsibility. And who are we giving a bad name to? Street racers get bad reps from drag racing monkeys who crash on the streets and the highways. We do our thing in the cutties and im sure you do it too and it's all good. You go there knowing you may crash. So i dont think anyone has a right to tell anyone not to setup a driving meet. Drifting or not. Just keep the location a secret

You might not know me personally but there are people out there that is working very hard to get events together and suddenly people with DIS-ORGANIZED meets (illegaly) its just a matter of time we will get a bad rep.
As of example. I was talking to the owner of Buttonwillow and he was mentioning to me how careless drifters are. I asked where he have heard this from, The News (I believed he mention about the hawaii thing). Lucky I have such a good relationship with those guys.
Im not telling hit not to set up. Im expressing my opinion of how i feel about the Street Drifting Meets over the public forum. I don't think I need to write an essay just to get my point through of what I meant. Naw mean G!

Great Exciting TOUGE BATTLE! AE86 vs S13
hahahaha
:P
LOL i can drive an ae86 faster than my s13 with my eyes closed. That's too easy. Try to overcome the understeer of an s13..there's a challenge. But if you would like to race another ae86, i may convince Rossi to race you Al. I've been driving with him. He showed me how sliding is faster. Cause in the tighter roads(downhill tofu run) you car can only pivot so much. When you slide(downhill) you gain speed through the turn while you're sliding yet having more ability to pivot your car through the turns, allowing you to enter the turns faster and still gain speed through them.
I wont race an ae86 but if you get an s13 i'll definitely run you up and down quimby a few times. unless you're down to switch cars after you smoke me, so i can smoke you back.

David, you wanna let me borrow your engine? hehe, u should knoe why...anyways this whole post has gotten a lil "initial-d" status...pretty whacked-out. I don't think that Al has to prove anything because the fact is, gripping is the best way to corner, nuff sed. Who drifts and gets the best track time? Most people say that drifting is based on STYLE not SPEED. About the understeer: if you tune ur car just right you'd get less of it, but all cars understeer. It's all a matter if you're a good driver or not.

Who ever said anything about a track. I know gripping is faster on the track. You have a lot more space than one lane, your car doesnt have to pivot nearly as much as taking hairpin after hairpin, and the track isnt downhill.

Im not the greatest driver out there but common knowledge of gripping VS Drifting. Even downhill, elavation of the place etc... We know that GRIPPING IS STILL FASTER.

Var, I've seen you grip and I know you can handle yourself on the corners and I've seen you do a little bit of drifting.
You guys are both good drivers, but NOBODY is perfect.
How about we keep it at that and lets drop this before someone gets heated.

anyone who ever thought i was smart was wrong. thanks for the offer to use your car i may take you up on it on sunday, i'll let you use mine too.
eyy al check this out
maybe you and i arent thinking of sliding the same way..what if the front wheels are on the limit of understeer and the rear wheels are spinning and pivoting the car, i guess you wouldnt be "drifting"(cause you're not countersteering) and you wouldnt be "gripping" cause you're still sliding. that's what i was talking about. If you still think i'm wrong, that totally fine with me.. see you on sunday, i can tell i'm gonna have fun conversating with you.

You have a lot more space than one lane, your car doesnt have to pivot nearly as much as taking hairpin after hairpin, and the track isnt downhill. If you wanna call it a "mountain pass" then fine, it's okay if you wanna be politically correct, if it makes you feel better. If you wanna prove that drifting is the best way to get around a corner be my guest. Think about it really hard...DRIFT: fast entry, slow exit GRIP: slow entry, fast exit. Could you at explain why drifting is better downhill?
thx247
02-10-2004, 10:47 AM
I don't quite see how driving on the track is more advantageous to a grip driver than a drift driver. Grip has more space to drive? That just means the drift driver would have to drift higher speeds and utilize that space more. This arguement is similar to trying to argue that a pound of lead is heavier than a pound of feathers. Speed on the track or street is just a function of how long you are on the gas pedal and how much the tires move the car forward. Its funny to understeer for a second or two and then get passed on the inside of a turn by a slower car with less power just because he was using the power he has more efficiently.
You could easily drive on the track using one side of it only if you wanted to see which was faster.

:blah:...
there was already a new thread started...so the original purpose of this thread has obviously long been cast aside...
you quoted me, but where did i speak of being a great, responsible driver? when i did i post about a specific meet?..drift or non drift?..in fact i wasn't even really talking shit..just making observations...
i think your frustration is misguided...not my fault if you find that my comments hit home with you...maybe there are issues you have with your own self that you need to evaluate... :wiggle:
in fact i wasn't even really talking shit..just making observations...
then what the hell is this
"why is it that only those who are new to drifting seem to be into these stupid meets?..people who feel they have somethin to proove to everyone else...those with low self esteem or whatever...that NEED this acceptence to validate who they are...it's so funny..."
that's talking mad shit in my book

Ya that's it . you've figured me out. :stupid:

it's an observation like i said...nothing more...i singled out noone...as a matter of fact that is a very vague group of people i just described...so if an individual chooses to take offense to it i refuse to be held accountable...
it's like saying all girls who drive Jettas are hotties because i happen to have 7 female friends who drive Jettas and 6 of them are smoking and the 7th is just above average...
there will be exceptions...you very well may be that 7th girl who is just above average...
i'm choosing to make an observation...if you disagree with it..by all means..tell me how i am wrong..just make sure you have somethin to back it up with...

haha...i must admit here and there some ghetto bitch is fun to rail...booty all up in that...lol..
and i LOVE to drift on the streets...it's great...there are certain corners on my way to and from work that i know like the back of my hand...nothing makes me more happy then a couple of nice drifts after as hard day's work...
but these meets bring nothing but problems...they are not organized well enough..there are NO safety requirements...and the image of them is horrible...that is my problem...because the backlash affects me greatly...suddenly cops know what "drift cars" are...they look for them..they single them out...it can only go downhill...
let me ask you this...
if you found the greatest pussy in the world...and it was yours anytime you wanted it...no fear of anything while hittin it...
would you run off and tell everyone about it and share it with them and invite them over?..hell no!..
but every once in a while you'd get your closest friends together and just tap the shit outta it..gang bang style...
this is the best anology i can come up with for my feelings on street drifting...
just my thoughts...

hahah...i'm just messin with you...my last post was a joke..
i dunno about at the meet...dunno how we could settle it there...physical confrontation is never fun...even if i kick someone's ass odds are i'll prolly get hit at least once..not really worth it..lol..:)
i'd be happy to settle it on a track sometime though...or even in the mountains...privately of course..:p..;)
well i can bring gloves so neither of us will bleed too much. or we can settle it on a downhill run from grant ranch to the bottom of the 8 mile run.

haha...we should do that at some meet....boxing...now that would be fun...be like Fight Club...
what part of privately did you not understand..:p..lol..after knowing my views on public displays of racing...that does not sound like fun to me...i can only imagine the spectators an actual staged race would have...no thanks..

We should have a drift meet.
Was that a joke?! haha b/c thats what it WAS suppose to be but theres another thread if you wanna hit that up...
westboroughpimp, PANDA was trying to stop arguing with you.
Stop this "lets settle it on a initial D touge run shit..." Nor with this boxing crap. Nothing needs to be settled over some little comment on the boards. No need to start anything. Im not trying to take anyones side but IF you guys happen to "settle" it, someone could seriously get hurt...and over what?! A silly comment like..."street drifting isnt safe"? If you dont like it fine. If you want to go street drifting go for it. Just be careful. Do it on your own time. Dont go posting about it b/c too many people....too much attention....too much trouble.
Just my opinion on street drifting. I do it too but on my own time or just a few friends. Now dont go trying to start anything just b/c of what I posted. ITS MY OPINION...

No. You do not understand the concept at all.
I can make a thread in Motorsport section if you want, then we can discuss more further...

How about you start heading out to drift events LEGALLY rather than making illegal meets around Norcal.
This is the kind of people that give us bad names.
man, al has a point.
arround here"831" salinas, monterey area the cops and socioty itself consiters us street racers, we get pulled over and harassed all day for lowered cars and modified exhausts, and not to mention a friend of mine just got a 400.00 ticket for "exibition of speed" and "wreckless driving". i never new that goin 20 mph sideawys in a 35 was exibition of speed? anyway.
to the comment about truenocoupe only attending 6 events a year?? lol man ive seen him at every event ive ever gone to + pics and video footage from events before that!.. he's a koo guy, even let me ride paassanger to get some footage for a video i am realeasing under " 180 video productions". but anyway, i'll stick to the events! rather not slide my car into and off a cliff like an idiot!:)
thanks anyway,

my car is my drift car..if i rap it in to something oh well..
ill bild another one..
id do go to events when i can but sometimes i get that urge to go drift
so i do..
i dont go out to your area and drift so im not the one making it hot for you guys..
what do you care about the rep of drifting anyway..
what do you want???for no one to drift on the streets,,and for cops to say
"hey,,those drifters sure are good about keeping it off the streets.."
its not gonna happen because no matter what people are going to do it anyway..
and most drift cars look like "race cars" to cops..

Do any of you understand that everyone has a different view on things. and no matter how much you try to preach it aint gonna work. let everyone be. I have done the street racing/drifting and i have gone to the track. so i can understand both sides. have any of you realized that you guys have been at this argument for almost a week and this is not the only thread, forum that has ran this topic to the ground. Some folks live within the law, others live outside of the law. all i have to say is for those that live outside of the law make sure you do what you without endangering innocent people. :smash:
