ok so i was trying to test the volts on the maf sensor and i crossed the wires up by making them touch each other and the car died. i can unplug it and start it up and itll run but as soon as i plug it in it dies again. could it be the ecu fried?

yes but the car was in limp mode which was the reason for me testing the volts. already tried another maf sensor and the same thing happened. the 12v maf wire is at 12.2 volts with the key "on" but the ground wire (white/blue) one is only reading .01 volts with the key in the "on" position. is that a bad ecu? everything was fine (other than the limp mode) until i accidentally crossed the signal wire with the 12v wire. is a bad ecu even possible if it will run as long as i have the maf disconnected?

already tried new maf sensor from a 96 maxima

ok so i followed the maf sensor ground wire (white/blue) to the ecu and it is pin # 26 i opened up the ecu and all looked fine until i opened up the back of it and found this right around the area of the #26 pin

almost certain those are burn marks it also smells burnt only in this area of the ecu

Fried. Time for a new ECU
how is it possible for the car to still run with a fried ecu as long as i have the maf disconnected? last time I fried my ecu on my sr i couldnt get the fuel pump to come on or spark or anything ive never seen this situation before but i guess its possible

try redoing the maf ground thats always helped

what do you mean? can i litterally take the maf ground wire and ground it out the chassis? or does it have to be going to the ecu?

Good chance you burned up the 12v rail at points all the way back to the ECU. Happened on my RB25 when I was redoing my wiring location, fell on my hot exhaust and melted. Only took me turning the key to on to screw it all up.
With some work the VG30DE can be modded to work with the RB25, but might require Nistune to function right.

big probability that the maf is bad. try a different one.
Dont plug in the maf.
Fried ECU...time for stand alone

You dont have to fry the whole thing, just a couple resistors or caps could be fried then when you plug it in to the ECU... boom acts as a switch and ground out the ECU and it dies.

Got a new ecu everything is good now. The maf wasn't the problem. Lesson learned the hard way lol DON'T CROSS THE MAF WIRES!!
