Key stuck in ignition, when turn on nothing works

So today I went to get into my car, which is a 1993 240sx hatch. Was an auto, had a manual swap. Then ended up swapping a rb20 in. Car was running fine, had no issues, etc.

I put the key in the ignition, turned the key to let the fuel up prime and nothing. Fuel pump wouldn't prime, car won't turn over. Nothing. The only thing that is working is the dash clock (sometimes) and the sound the car makes when the door is open (which was pissing me off).

I then noticed that the steering wheel wouldn't lock and the key wouldn't turn completely into the lock position.

I checked all fuses, none are blown, everything worked previously.


Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The car is a manual... now. And I am lead to believe that the car does not believe it is in park. How would I go about fixing this? Never had this issue before. Why would it start now?

Rip the ignition out and put a new one

After going over the service manual and everything else, I am lead to believe that it is the shift lock control unit.

Does this sound correct to anyone else? I've never heard of them going bad or anything.

did you jump the park neutral switch wires when you did the manual swap?

Find the passenger side fuse box. If you look at it, it will have 4 plugs hanging off of it. 3 large plugs, and a small 2 wire plug (it’s not visible in the picture except by the two wires connected by the yellow splice).

The small 2 wire plug is the park neutral switch. To make the car start, you’ll have to jumper those. The easiest way is to cannibalize the plug off the AT tranny harness. Then you can just connect the two wires together with a splice and plug it back into the chassis plug.

I drove with the manual swap for a good 4-5 months, and the rb20 was running for the past week (just swapped it in after refreshing it). I played with the sensor unplugged it and plugged it back in and bam. Thing started and my key comes out... plug came loose.

Thanks for the help though, greatly appreciated. A lot more than "rip out the ignition and put a new one."
