i got an 89 s13 w/ an sr20, the clutch pedal isent catching enough pressure to move back up on its own and the release valve on the slave keeps letting liquid out instead of air. this should be a simple process into a head ache, any suggestions?

I know there's a lot of threads on this subject already, search if you feel this isn't correct.
If you have the damper installed, you need to bleed with, pressure or vacuum. It's really takes long, if you just gravity or one man system it.
build pressure in the system, keep pedal on the floor, crack open bleeder, keep pedal on the floor, close bleeder, slowly lift pedal. repeat remember keep reservoir filled
With out the damper, is easy or should be. you could just a simple pump pump pump pump pump, hold pedal down, crack open bleeder, close bleeder, raise pedal slowly.
Or one man bleeder, connect, hose to bleeder, crack open bleeder, pump pedal a few times, check hose, pump some more then close bleeder.

If, your parts are not failing the system is easy to understand. If you have a broken spring or a leaking master how are we supposed to know?

is there a difference on the damper if the car was auto or manual? my car was auto and then i swaped it into a manual, none of the parts are leaking and nothing is broken

You, did the swap did you swap in the damper? Auto's don't have clutch dampers.
There should be nothing wrong then? Try starting the car.
Or maybe you need to adjust the pedal.
After starting, see if you have trouble putting it in gear/gears.

check adjustment of the pedal. if the pedal is adjusted too far out it will push the piston past the discharge port on the master and may not return back to its home postion in the bore, therefore not building pressure when you apply the pedal.

Bingo!
this should take care of your problem

Well put. After close to six months of my 240 being parked in the garage, I was done with fixing the body so I tried moving the car and had no clutch pressure. I bled the system pretty much the same way it is explained above. After about an hour of bleeding out the system it slowly began to pressurize. Be patient if at first it does catch. I still have the damper and I had two other people helping. One pressing the clutch the other checking the reservoir and me under the car.

just went through this issue myself putting a SS line in. fixed it the same way above. be really OCD about making sure the master has enough fluid. i just finished my Z32 brake swap so i had a bunch laying around. but other than having to operate the clutch by hand not much different than bleeding like brakes.
one question are you using SSlines or do you have rubber lines? if you have have old rubber lines they could be swelling.

if you guys really read fluid comes out the bleeder off the slave, theres your problem, get a new slave and go at it again.
