1998 Nissan 240SX SE (http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/cto/2972156177.html)

I'm thinking of buying this Kouki to add paint/wheels and possibly a KA or SR swap.
What would you pay for this?

The seller is asking $4700. Is this a fair price?

Thanks guys.

1 million doll hairs. Id say its worth around 4000 but Im sure someone will pick it up for his asking price or around it. If you want it you better jump on it, koukis under 5000 sell quick.

What do you expect? Your asking for an OPINION. The car has some pros and cons so you have to decide if you think its worth the trouble to fix the bugs, roll it until the wheels fall off, or pick up a cleaner one that doesn't need any work for more money. Yes its worth what he's asking in an enthusiasts eyes, but not the everyday Joe.

There's wisdom in the multitude of counsel.
I agree with what you're saying though. I might jump on it considering there's not many decent, unmodified koukis going around these days. Thanks for the replies guys.

What's with these damn threads? Anyone ever heard of research or learn about the car they are potentially going to buy....BAH!

If It were me, I'd bite at $4700, no doubt.

I'd try to talk him down a bit though, but $4700 isn't all that bad.

This has me a bit concerned...

It has a KA in it already....

Yes, but it has 197k miles on it.
I was thinking of an SR swap but to avoid possible problems with finding an SR-knowledgeable mechanic, I'm considering getting a new KA with less mileage and turbo that instead. I guess I could even rebuild the current KA. Seems like it'd be expensive though.

Um personally I would do a "ka" or a "SR" swap. That's a shit ton of miles on the ka in there so replacing it sounds like a good idea.

And as far the price I would do a quick search on something you think is perfect. (rims, swap and everything) then figure out if you can build that car for less money. If you can then there's your answer.

you have more options then a ka or sr swap, dont waste ur money on a sr and dont turbo ur ka if your gonna go godspeed parts.

4700 for a clean koukie sounds good but id ask 4k.

The fact that it's unmolested by some dumb teenager is what makes it worth it... Who gives a shit about the motor. KAs are a dime a dozen these days as long as its clean and not a rust bucket I'd say it's worth the 4700. But definitely check for rust as I can see the paints oxidized which means this car is definitely weathered

Its a kouki, 5 speed, 5 lugs and some mods to it...only thing I see is it needs fresh paint. I wouldnt pay $6500 but $4700 is a good deal for this. I'd check the engine compression due to the mileage, if you get atleast 180ish...engines good to go.

I can't tell but does it have a sunroof? If it does, just inspect it to make sure the glass trim is in good condition. If it doesnt have a sunroof...even fucking better.

Here's my email conversation with him. He hasn't provided 1 pic of the engine bay. Got a weird feeling that he doesn't want to disclose something. Maybe I'll just move along...

Me: I'm still interested in coming up on my price but I'd like to know what shape the motor/transmission are in before I make you an offer. Reason being is that I need it to be reliable to drive until I can plan out and complete a swap.

Him: Im going to show it on tuesday and the guy agreed to 5300. Obviously its not final, but you can meet it or not. First come first serve. Thanks!

Me: Hmm. I just want to know what's up with the car mechanically...

He hasn't responded =/

I am looking for one myself. I would pay between 4500-5500 depending on the condition.

If the interior is 9/10, and the exterior has no damage, there is no rust, has a clean carfax, and under 240k... there is not much more you can ask for. Even if it has 4-lug that can be changed easily enough.

biggest problems are:
Rust, frame damage, accident reports.

Most of the interior can be swapped for cheap. And we all know the condition of the engine does not really matter... an OEM KA that runs good adds maybe $500 to the car, if that.

Paint looks rough, I saw it on CL for a long time listed for $6500. Offer $4k even.

I see that you're in GA. I was considering even making the drive up there if I saw one I liked. I've been looking at this one as well.

No matter what anyone says here, if you want it bad enough, you're going to pay whatever he's asking.

At 4700, even a kouki with a lemon KA isnt a bad deal, IF it is really in good shape.

Hes probably just tired of tire kickers asking for more pics... They get really annoying.

Lol. Maybe I'm crazy but, pics of the motor are a given when selling a car.

I just got an S14 plus some cash in a trade for my 04 BMS14. I figure it cost me $5k for the car. It has an SR20det swap and is in good shape. There are a few of them up for sale around here.
