Im changing my exhaust from a huge (4" I think, or maybe 3.75") Hks super dragger to a 3" straight pipe. Am I going to be seeing a noticeable loss in power?

Cheers

isnt 3'' prime for ka/sr?

Not unless you have like a 700hp SR. You may notice a noticeable increase in police attention though

why? is the real question... HKS> fence pipe

ya what engine, n/a or turbo.

if you have an n/a ka, you shouldnt be any bigger than 2.25"

if turbo, how much hp, since typically you want to start at 3" and work your way up as you build more power.

I mean i knew a supra back in 05 (i think) that made 1500hp with a 5" exhaust haha but im guessing you dont make that much or have a 2jz converted to a single turbo the size of my head.

on a na ka a thicker exhaust shifts up the powerband. At 5500+ rpm you will notice a difference

That could be quite a difference if he's a boy racer using those last 1k rpms every drive. LOL

Just in case you missed it the first time...

OEM exhaust on most SR20DET engines can support up to 280RWHP give or take 20 horsepower.

That said, anything larger than an OEM exhaust system on any naturally aspirated 240sx OEM engine with displacement < 3L would be silly.

in run a 3 inch on a na single cam ka lol

its really not going to make much difference unless your pushing alot of power. amybe you'll have more midrange power due to the back pressure

Hes running a sr but dont know if its stock or built. I would keep the hks. Its rare model to get and sounds 100 times better then straight pipe

Iv not had the car rr'd so I don't know any figures, it's an import and had a few nice/expensive toys when I got it so its not just been used as a tourer.
I would say its pushing between 250-300 from how it felt.
I fear I don't need a huge exhaust and to e honest I want to be able to go retarded low.
The super dragged was touching the floor at this height:

37439

I want to be this height if not a little lower without constantly dragging mild steel 4" tubing along the ground

Smaller exhaust diameter may increase torque?

If u have $1200 PBM has a twin oval exhaust that will clear everything and it flows better than a 3" lol

I dont^

So what's the consensus? I should see any noticeable power loss?

on the contrary you wont be so loud so you wont be wondering why your not moving so fast

Well since a few people asked you what engine you have to help better answer your question and you still never said, I'm going to ask.

What kind of engine do you have?

Saw that but wasn't sure if that's what you had or not. 4" exhaust is for high power or diesel's IMO. You should be fine.

if you want to go to 3 inch to gain ground clearance, it`s ok. like some one already said, 3 inch is probably better in your case anyway.

sohc ka 3inch all the way out the back ok?

if its na, you are losing power with a 3"

about stock size, which is about 2.25" is about right for an n/a ka. maybe go up to 2.5" if you have a built engine and up your compression.

if you turboed the ka, then 3" is good.

no. i switched from my n1 apexi to stock and the only thing i noticed was the noise and that wasn't even that much since I've got a 3in down pipe and test pipe. (s13 sr 12psi)

on a similar note has anyone seen the southpark about Harley riders I think it should be a same thought for us....

4" is over kill. doesn't matter if it's 300,400,500HP.

no..... you will not. No need to debate. Maybe the butt dyno will read -12hp, but a real dyno will show that you didn't lose or gain anything that couldn't also be attributed to atmospheric conditions and possibly the moons gravitational pull.

But one time I saw a 800hp supra that picked up 7hp going from 3" to 4".

95% of aftermarket exhausts for our cars are 3".
You will be fine, fella.

Straight pipes are kind of loud and annoying though.
