Speedometer starts and stops working? Easy fix?

Just like the title
Sometimes works and sometimes doesn't

-jack the car up
-locate the speedometer sensor
-check the line to see if the connector clip are loose

then test it

If that doesn't work, swap out your cluster with a friend's working unit. I happen to have a cluster that has a working speedo but broken tach so i'll sell it to you for dirt if you need it (white cluster). Good luck.

Usually needs a speedometer. Mine did. Others have too.

it's not the speed sensor. i replaced mine, didn't fix it.

it's the cluster itself.

mine used to do that I replaced my speedometer and it doesnt do it any more

Mine did this. It had broken solder joints on the back of the speedo that happened due to the flex in the circuit board that occurs when you reset the trip odometer. I heated up the solder joints and fixed the connections and have not had a trouble since. FREE99

Mine did , and i unclipped the tranny clip from the speed sensor and plugged back in and it hasn't done it in 5 months

Im having the same issue currently .. 89 hatch.. I will check the solder points.. fingers crossed.
