My SR20DET was rebuilt with STD size ACL main bearings, OEM nissan rod bearings, oem rings. stock t25, stock injectors, walbro 255 L/h. Head has stock cams till the bottom ends gets broken in.

Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power (http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm)

Above is the method I and others have used on stock bmw m20 rebuilds running stock everything.

What i really want to know is the kinds of oil you guys use for break in?

I was going to run Brad Penn 30w Break-In (http://pitstopusa.com/c-135775-oil-fluids-motor-oil-brad-penn-high-performance-racing-oil-brad-penn-penn-grade-1-break-in-oil.html) for the first 50 miles, changing oil and filter at a 25 mile interval.

Then i would run either Rotella 15w-40 or Valvoline VR-1 15w-40 conventional (for the added ZDDP content) for the next 150 miles.

After at intital 200 miles, i would switch to Torco Tr-1 20w-50.

Thoughts?

Should i use that method to break in my freshly built SR?
Also interested on what oil I should use too?

I don't think it's necessary to change the oil that often.

When I had my SR rebuilt...I just run regular 10-40W oil, changed it at 50-100-500, took it easy till 500 then went 15-50 synthetic.

I just had mine rebuilt and should be getting it back this weekend. I was planning on changing the oil at 200 miles, then again after another 800 or so. I've been advised to rail the piss out of it, lots of engine braking, and don't drive on the freeway for extended periods of time for a good 2-300 miles.

I'd change the oil after initial startup and brought up to operating temp. Lots of initial wearing downand settling in of parts is my thought. Then on with the break-in cycle oil changes with conventional oil was what I did. She's still running purdy good after about 6 months.

non detergent huh?

I think the brad penn is similar, but i'll call up my local parts distributor and see what he can get me cheaper.

technically the zinc additive in break in oil is to protect the cams and bearings from excessive friction. rotella and most diesel oils have an added amount on zinc, ive used both rotella t and joe gibbs racing break in oil changed at the 500 mile mark with no issues.

Yessir helps to seat the rings, bearings etc... Just say in Vacumm not in boost and you'll be good... Then change at the 500 mark

Anyone here break in a engine with a dyno? My car has no registration, its a track car. I was told by my mechanic who is in Texas to prime the engine, circulate it by hand before u turn it over. Any sugestions.
