While installing a new set of coilovers yesterday my OE Nissan nuts, sheared off two bolts to my strut. Now the same thing happened today, with two more, so I bought 6 new OE nuts... and they feel like they're being difficult going on and now I'm scared to force them off lest they shear my back up set ...
Anyone ever had this happen to them?
BTW 1996 240SX, with TEIN SS original, replaced with other coils which sheared... I can only imagine it was the nut...

Are you putting them on right?
Ive always used oem nuts with coilovers and never had a problem, and ive done it with 8-9 240's.

Yeah, actually had a tech help me... and I'm a tire tech during the day... I don't think I'm cross-threading them or anything... which is why I was curious. Cuz it is weird... I'm not really sure what's going on here?

Are the new coil's studs the same thread and pitch as the OE nuts?

They should be if they aren't included with their own hardware...
The new stud seem to thread on to a point, but after that I don't know?

Sounds like the studs stipped.

Sounds like it, but the studs are brand new.

maybe thread pitch is different.
Chase the threads and start over.. If its not obvously ruined then you can fix it before you do ruin it.

Shouldn't be if its OE nut with "bolt-ln" threading
Good idea CMG... ill try thar after stud replacement

How about you take a thread/pitch indicator and size both stud and bolt. Then go to Home Depot and match a new nut to the stud. At least that's what I would do. It would probably have taken just as long as making this thread.

Maybe, but now I have to wait till the studs are replaced. So ill size them after that...
I was only asking if this happened to anyone else to see if I was stupid, or an anomoly or whatever.
