Hey guys,
I recently started working on making my own set of speaker templates that are based off of the available template on Nico, but slightly modified to fit a little better.
I have mine finished and I must say I'm very impressed with them. I was wondering, would anyone buy these if I made them for you? I'm not really looking for much profit, just trying to help out other members with less free-time than I.
Again, I understand the blueprint is freely available to everyone, but some people would rather buy these than make them. If you would be interested, what would be a good price? I have no idea on shipping.
I use high quality 1/4" medium density fiberboard. The mount holes are 1/4". I'm also building a protector on the back to guard the speaker against incoming rain water from old window seals. Also looking at a wax treatment for the board to make it more aesthetically pleasing and to protect it from moisture. I will get photos once I complete the water guard.
Also, are there any other parts you would like made for your s13? I say s13 because that's what I have and I need a car for R&D of parts. I'm not a professional, but I am a dedicated amateur fabricator with a degree in Mechanical Engineering right around the bend.
Cheers :)

It used to be $20 from eBay for a pair of front adapters made out of plastic of some sort. I may be interested depending on $$$. I made a set using 1/2 inch MDF. Works great. Also would like to know, since speaker mounting depth varies, are you open to making the adapters in various sizes to accommodate?

any plans on making the rear adapters for a 6.5" ?
30$ + on ebay for the rears :mepoke:

I was going to use 1/2", but I was unsure if it would clear the door panel. I would be more than happy to make some 1/2" if people would like that instead; I cannot confirm the clearance though. As I'm sure you know, MDF is a better material for audio components. By various sizes, do you mean the diameter for the speaker mount or something else? I had to make my hole bigger due to my speakers having a 145mm mounting plate. These would all be handmade to order, so I can really do anything if I have the tools and good blueprints.

I never considered it, but I would be happy to take a look this Saturday. If I recall correctly, I saw a few threads on Google saying they were ridiculously hard to make, but I'm not sure. I'll definitely check it out :coold:
It seems those adapters on eBay are a decent price, but I wouldn't use metal because it's not ideal for the application. Seems the adapter market may be cornered. I'm not for sure on this because it takes an awfully long amount of time to make these (well, it did when I had to design and build mine several times to get them right). I'm a perfectionist! Hopefully, in May, I'll gain access to a CNC mill. I've already created a 3D model of my adapters to program as soon as the mill is up. Then, I can make them much quicker and more consistent, all while keeping them open to complete customization.

I'm not stopping you, lol. If you meant to sell them, by all means, go for it! From what it looks like to me, there's about zero profit involved, haha. If you would rather me make you a pair, I probably can. Have to bear with the fact I'm a full time student and boyfriend, and handmaking these is tedious work :s101:

depending on price, I would.

Well, wait until I get photos up and you guys can pick a reasonable price.
I'm not trying to obligate myself to everyone considering the little amount of free time I have now. If I do this, it will be one person at a time, at my own time. I'm not going to get bound up in intranets drama like, "I paid him 2 weeks ago and he stole my money, blah blah blah."
I'm just gauging if it's even worth it :snoop:
Also, I'm soooo much more than willing to give these, or anything I produce, to those who can help me with a few car issues. Mainly wiring. That advantage goes mostly for locals though, unfortunately.

Ahh, I see. Yeah, once I noticed water getting into my doors, there was no way in hell I was putting my Rockfords in there unprotected.

I'm using a wood treatment, a wax of sorts, meant to block the moisture from getting to the wood. Will it over time? Sure. Who knows how long that'll be? 1 year? 2? 5? I would be cool with spending $20 every 5 years for nice adapters :rl:

I'll try to get a photo up tonight of mine. As for how big they can get, I think I've seen as big as 6x9, but I don't have one to test with, only a 6.5". Well, mine is technically a 6.75".

I can possibly make them from any material, but as the cost of materials goes up, so does the price :/
Here are some photos of mine.
Mind you my "rain guard" is unfinished and the wood is still untreated.

Have any idea if that can be cut and shaped easily like the MDF? I don't want it cracking and falling apart.

Awesome! Glad to have contributed! I used supre glue tabs to hold it in place and some Loc Tite Power Grab to seal it up nicely.

what do you use to cut it? if the machine you use to cut is compatibale with flexi then yes lol. idk?
i was going to do this myself but thought i could just save the cutting time and pay someone.

Machine? Psh, handmade man, lol. I used that little Coping saw in the photo. Along with a few hours of work, a lot of patience, and some sand paper.

Fuck, I'm down for a set. One of my speakers literally just blew and I've been looking into squeezing a bigger set in there, if I'm gonna replace might as well upgrade. Let me know $$ and also if ur gonna be making bigger sizes

Bigger sizes as in what? If I have the dimensions and it fits, I can make it. I still need to figure out shipping. How do I go about that? Sorry, I've just never shipped anything, lol.

I didn't mean that as incapable and inevitable screw up, I've just never had to deal with shipping. I know it will be very easy. Give me an example ZIP so i can get a quick estimate. I was wondering if these would fit in an envelope?

I did it because I noticed rain getting past my ancient seals and I wasn't going to sacrifice my nice speakers, lol. It does indeed clear the window, even when completely down. It's a very small clearance, but it's perfect. Maxiumum mounting depth for speakers and it keeps them nice and safe. I can probably get a photo soon. I found it odd that my passenger side had more clearance though because my templates are nearly identical.

95521 just figure out the wight and I think ur gonna have to use a flat rate box or something don't think they'll fit in a shipping envelope, but they might
And I meant bigger sizes in terms of the speaker hole as previously mentioned above by another dude

oh you mean a dremel.. i got a kit at costco for $30. yea i have a kit and thats what i was going to cut mine with if I was to do it myself. I guess ill just have to do it since it will be the same process and i kind of want to do it myself now.
as for shipping, just get some pretty thick cardboard and sandwich those adapters and duct tape it

They're smaller than a sheet of paper, so I think they may fit in the shipping envelopes. I'm trying to keep costs down and make everyone a happy camper, lol.

That container is actually from a pack of ham my girlfriend's mom bought. It was a Kroger brand if I remember correctly. My speakers have a mounting depth of 2.17", so I didn't have much clearance, but the ham containers just barely cleared :D

Not a Dremel; I wish. I used an actual coping saw:
Shop Kobalt 6" Coping Saw at Lowes.com (http://www.lowes.com/pd_152677-930-324CP9_0__?productId=1018541&Ntt=coping+saw&pl=1¤tURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Dcoping%2Bsaw&facetInfo=)
The shipping idea is a great one. I'm going to figure a way to take orders and such after school today and I'll get back to you guys. As for making it yourself, it's really not hard. It was fun for me, but tedious if you're a perfectionist like myself. Good luck with it!
