View Full Version : Splitfire coil packs discontinued?

This morning one of my SplitFire coil packs melted and I called SplitFire and they said they stopped making them a couple of years ago (?!!!)
Has anyone found a source for individual replacement coil packs?
I guess I can put the stock coil packs on tonight but it doesn't make me happy. FRSport says they have two more complete coil pack setups in stock for sale and after that they will be gone ($offered at $394 a piece).

SR20DET...I should have specified. I spoke to my builder at lunch (who builds cars for Formula D) and he said one of this other drivers just had this happen to him a couple weeks ago.
A SplitFire representative said they would see if they can find a spare coil pack in inventory but I am not optimistic about that.

Go back to fresh stock ones with fresh harness...good enough to handle 600hp.

Just for the sr motors, this is why I don't have rare tuner shit on my cars. Time to upgrade to LS coils if you feel it's even necessary. Jeff at Jordan Innovations can take care of you if you need to head that route. Otherwise just like the other guys said, stock is just fine.

only issue i've had with the stock ones is that they fail after going through x amount of heat cycles... removing the plug cover usually helps reduce heat.

I know it's been months but was just wondering, Can they really handle that much power? I was contemplating buying the Splitfire kit but after reading that they are discontinued I don't want to risk the same thing happening as OP. I may just buy 4 New OEM coil packs If that's the case.

Yes...its the same coilpack setup on 300ZX/VG30DETTs. Can you really expect old, worn, cracking coilpacks to handle high HP setup? Get some fresh coilpacks, fresh coilpack harness to ensure everything is legit and properly grounded, should be able to handle anything you throw at it for the most part. I was running stock coils on my 500hp SR, just ran some NGK 9 heat range plugs.
Or if you need coils for even more power, you could use Audi/VAG 115R-coils (I am), they handle 300hp per coil, so it should be enough for most people :)
Just pop them in, but you need a harness with the correct connectors of course, but I bought my coils with a premade harness that was plug and play. Also, they have built-in ignitor amps (I have no idea what they're called), so you can remove the stock ignitor chip..

B6 S4 or 1.8t coilpacks? Oh no... They replace those with LS coils or keep a few in the trunk.

Not familiar with that, I know myself and a number of others haven't had a problem with them (a good friend is pushing just about 800 hp with five of them on his Audi S2).. And I'm sure LS-coils are great, but they aren't as readily available here in Sweden as Audi coils are.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply.

I was surprised when I had a dead Splitfire coilpack and switched back to stock coilpacks to see my AFRs decrease, then when I put new Splitfires back on the AFRs improved significantly.
For me, I won't be going back to stock coilpacks ever. If the Splitfires die and my spare coil pack gets consumed I will have to find LS or other coilpacks as aftermarket substitutes.
