Hey.

So I have a 1991 nissan 300zx twin turbo, and It's in the shop originally because one of the pistons melted up, so It's got stock bore pistons and all the gaskets ready to throw in.

But I want more horsepower. Some have claimed that 500hp on a 300zx will cost 15 thousand dollars, So i quickly called BS on that statement. I think it could be done, and done right for much less than 15k.

For instance, JWT sells the sport530bb turbos, which are just gt2560r's with a 4 bolt DP flange like the stock 300zx one. But instead of it being around the price of an original garrett gt2560r, they up the price for two almost 500-700 dollars! Enjuku, one garrett gt2560r costs 640 dollars..so this is one way I could save money. (asking them how to install s15 oem turbos turns into "well, ya gotta cut here, drill this, weld this" And theyre really over playing it so they can get the sale, IMO.

Another high cost area is with those damn Injectors. Everyone knows how expensive nismo 740cc injectors are. So why not Jecs 740cc? Many people run them, and it really seems that the only time i hear bad about them is when one of these brochure builder companies wants to sell Nismo injectors and those only. (they must be making more money off of them.) They make it seem like that's the only option available especially when they downplay all other manufacturers of Side feed injectors, (some i do agree with, like Venoms.)

And so on. So i'm asking you guys if you have experience in building a quality car that lasts a decent amount of time, for much less than just brochure building a car and havign someone else install it. I'm not that type of guy. I'm learning right now how to tune an ECU, and I plan to build my car for less than the advertized cost (i plan on doing most, if not all, the work myself.)
Any tips on what I could cut cost on would be appreciated.

Turbo and Cheap in a positive sentence will never exist.

for example
This cheap turbo blew up on me again.
or
I bought this turbo for only 20 bucks. I just need to rebuild it and make a flange and replace the broken fins.

if you want a good setup and dont want to deal with parts breaking you will spend about 8 to 15 k. Even then shit will still break.

single GT35R Z32.

NUFF SAID

GT35R Turbo & wastegate- $1500

custom manifolds and downpipes MAX $2000

fuel / pump / ecu - $1500

new clutch - $400

that would get you up there in power.

assuming you have exhaust already, and a few other tid-bits.

I accept your challenge..

When driving my Turbo vehicle, i can across a cheap item at a garage sale. the item was a vibrating dildo, which i turned into a shifter for my turbo car. ever since the new addition, multiple girls want to constantly ride my cheap turbo car's shift knob.

As much as I'd like to discuss the details, it could be slightly disturbing depending on WHO you bought it from. :wackit:

Anyway, I'm kinda leaning away from going single turbo so early on. Tubular manifolds on these cars are worth nothing since they crack so easily, even using Inconel stainless, (ask Mike Smith of MSP). I'd have to find a way to get the manifold cast, and the y pipe necessary to make it all come together. That just seems like it would be more than I expect it to be.

Well, here's my projected setup, maybe someone can tell me where It should improve:

Two gt2560r turbo's (1280) (prices dont include shipping)
- Or Godspeed GT2860rs's (apparently 740 shipped but I could be wrong)
If i can afford them at the time, maybe used (400-600)
AEM methanol/water injection + boost juice (350+ not necessary, but good to have since I won't be running the best intercoolers ever)
Godspeed SMIC kit (300)
Stage 'III clutch' (400)
L.W. Flywheel(200)
JECS 740cc (440 off fiveomotorsport, 3yr warranty)
I might be going with CP forged pistons if I have too much blowby on my block as of right now. then i will need to find a price to bore my block out 1mm. (740 + the block service)
CZP clutch fork kit (80-120)
Shaftmasters 1pc aluminum driveshaft
Zemulator ecu + my 'awesome' tuning...yeah right. (550)
Megan downpipes, resonated test pipes (300)
AEM truboost (330)
BFG Gforce R1's (200, already bought)
Kazera KZA 18x9.5 +45mm offset and spacers (have spacers, the rest of the shit is going to cost around 500)

I think there's a bunch I'm forgetting. I already have an exhaust, my suspension taken care of, as well as my interior... (500hp build includes getting the car relatively show worthy, it's going to be a DD for now until I get another Miata, then it will be my weekend racer)

what you are trying to do is not easy, especially with your car. while turbo builds are costly, it is possible to boost a car for cheat. The 300zx is just not cheap to mod.

No one wants to steal your 90s sports car with a blown motor being built with Godspeed parts :picardfp:

you would not need CP pistons for a 500hp. Just get new rings for the piston. Ive had friends use stock vgtt pistons in SRs that are around 600hp..

theres nothing wrong with godspeed turbos.. i trust them and it is well worth its cost especially for people who dont have the money to drop on a ball bearing turbo. Just be sure to run a good oil feed line with a restrictor. Remember not to pull hard until after 300-1000k break in.

To the guy with the comment about nobody would steal my car.. Godspeed turbochargers and intercoolers are the only godspeed items that will be on the car, and you'd be surprised what people would steal when they can't afford it.

i know cp pistons arent needed for 500hp, and I do have chrome rings already ->

What i was referring to was a block bore to 88mm and cp pistons, in the case of blow by.

Thanks for the info on the godspeed turbos. It's either these or garrett gt2560r's for right now.

1. when it's finished.
2. you won't be able to see the godspeed turbos or the smic's from the outside, where a theif would be. Right? Not even on the inside. have you SEEN a 300zx engine bay? lol.
3. thives can't afford shit. they would see my car as a 90's sports car. They'd take it if they wanted it. Just like they see a 240 as a 90's sports car. just as they see hondas as 'sports cars'. (they're not, but they're very easy to steal.)
4. especially with the other things planned that i wont go into detail about right now. Nothing to add to the thread about godspeed turbochargers? then leave, maybe? Thanks.

Cheap
Reliable
Fast

i'll go with cheap and reliable. it's a daily driver, don't need it to be a vg33dett.

Anyone have experience with JEC's injectors? or is Nismo REALLY the only good quality sidefeed pintle-less injector? I think they ask too much when JECS manufactures them anyway.

And what's the problem with Deatsch injectors? It's 2012, haven't seen a recent 'failed injector' thread on DW's recently, so are they good to go now?
