Hi,
I have a 98 kouki 5 speed. Recently purchased. The check engine light was on when i got the car. Checked the DTC and it throwed p0446. I found that it was a fuse inside the car near the driver foot well. The fuse cover has labelled it as A/T cont and number 14. It was a 7.5A fuse that was missing and i just replaced the fuse and erased the code and now its gone. Thanks to the repair manual online.
But here's my question, I have 2 repair manuals for the same model and one of the manual said that the fuse that controlled the vent valve was number 23 and the other repair manual said that it was the number 14 fuse..

I got confused at first but I found out the second manual was right.Btw, the section "EC" on the first manual was 13MB file with nearly 450 pages and the second one was only 320 pages.
I just wanted to know which will be right one for future use. They both are mostly identical..Dunno how to find out??

Make sure the one isn't for S13.

Yes, its not for the S13..

But, i just found out that the 1997 has a slightly different fsm than the 98 fsm..

are both cars different..i mean the 97 and the 98?

I am guessing not, but just need to clarify this..

on the website that i used to download the file, i clicked the one that said 97-98 fsm,

but on another website there are 2 separate links for 97 and 98 fsm's..
'that's confusing..

Upload the files here so we can look at 'em.

this one below says its for 97 and 98

Index of /FSM/240sx/1997 (http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/240sx/1997/)

I got the above link from nicoclub forums

this one says its for 98

Index of /FSM/240sx/1998 (http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/240sx/1998/)

and I got the above one from 240sx.org

Check the section EC, both files sizes are different

It looks more or less the same, just the information is rearranged / reorganized in some places.

What pages did you find the discrepancy on?

On the 97 fsm, EC section page 206.. which is for p0446 vent control circuit and on the 98 fsm EC section page 281, same p0446 vent control circuit, check the wiring circuit diagram for the EC Vent/V-01..

The fuse is different, 97 says its the number 14 fuse(7.5A) and the 98 fsm says its the number 23 fuse (10A)..

My car is a 1998 for sure..But, according to the 97 fsm, i figured out the 7.5A fuse number 14 is the right one..Maybe the 23 fuse does something too, but sure does not control the canister vent valve..

I would remove fuse 14 and replace fuse 23, to see if the code comes back.

EDIT: If it doesn't, I would use the '98 manual.

i know that the 98 manual is much more detailed than the 97, but in my case, i already tried doing what you said...there was no voltage supply without the 7.5 A fuse..

it was weird but its the 7.5A fuse that controls the vent valve..

This changes everything. We can't trust anything anymore :hide:.

Maybe it's just a typo of sorts? In the meantime, without further clarification, I'd refer to both manuals. If they have conflicting information, then just troubleshoot.

Have you noticed any other differences with the wiring?

no, i haven't really looked into it..i just wanted that damn vent valve to be functioning normal..

I also found out that, if your vent valve is not operating, then your car will throw 3 codes,
1.p0446
2.p1105 - map/baro valve
3.p0136 - rear 02 sensor..

before I traced the fuse for the vent valve, i did a system check on the map/baro valve and the rear 02 sensor, both were functioning normal as per the fsm..then i couldn't leave my car the way it was, so i kinda looked into all the probable causes and then finally figured out it was the fuse..it was marked as A/T cont on the fuse cover, and i really din't care since my car was factory 5-speed..then when i saw the 2 fsm's available for the same car, i referred the second one and it was marked as that one stupid fuse..simple problem, but took a huge headache to solve it..

Trust me, nothing will satisfy anyone if you don't get that car running as it should..and working on the problem yourself to get the best solution..
