View Full Version : Pulling and rolling Fender for big sexy wheels...

I've been reading a lot of posts and people seem to be confusing rolling fenders and pulling fenders. People also seem to be afraid of rolling/pulling and/or are not willing to do it. Its amazing how much clearance you can get with just a simple roll.

Rolling - Only rolling the inner fender lip to accomodate a bigger tire/wheel. You cannot even see the roll from outside unless you pop your head under the fender.

Pulling - Literally pulling the fenders out to allow even mor room for bigger tires/wheels. This is definatley visible from the outside. Personally I think pulled fenders in the rear are the hotness. But thats just me.

Now my car has its REAR fenders PULLED and my front fenders are ROLLED. Notice how you cant tell if my front fenders haven't even been touched, however the rears are clearly pulled out about 2". Again thanks Aaron (dousan) for doing the awesome work. Join imagestation if you haven't I'm to lazy post otherwise!

The good stuff:

PS the pics are old. Bisophant has those front wheels and Kid Zelda has the rears. I have now gone 17s and big brakes, thats why they were rolled and pulled before.

Looks like you need to make it more symmetrical. It seems like the back of the fender is pulled more than the front or it could just be the pictures. Maybe I just don't know anything about the way pulled fenders are supposed to look. Can you take another picture but straight at it for a comparison?

Hmm, no there symmetrical. Does this pic help???

edit: Don't mind that nasty dent above the fender, it will be gone soon. Wheres my plunger?

Weird, I always thought pulling fenders lead in the widebody direction, i.e. pulling out the entire fender vs simply unfolding the fender lip.

did that happen when pulling the fender?..just curious as it happened to my car as well...

Well if you were to have a body shop pull the fenders out, then it COULD be considered widebody to an extent. Sorta like Jspecs yellow coupe. I consider widebody to be something utilizing a kit to make the car much wider. Lke this maybe:

This particular kit is GROSS imo, but you get what I'm saying. I'm mainly talking about utililzing stock body/fender pieces to allow more room for wheels/tires that you could do yourself!

No. This happened well after. A fat mexican girl riding her bike slammed into my car trying to avoid another car. Apparantley ridning your bike in the middle of a busy street is a bad idea. Who would have thought? I saw the wholw thing happen as I was walking to my car. The girl couldn't even speak english so I just said fuck it. My car is no show car by any means. :ghey:

heat gun...hammer...fender roller...

JasonNagra
01-22-2004, 02:18 PM
Well a fender rolling tool and a good heat gun is prolly the easiset way. You could also do it with a hammer and heat gun too. Thats how some do it overseas.

hammer and propane torch is best for rolling

Do you guys chip the paint when you roll fenders? Does the heat gun soften the paint enough to keep it from cracking, or do you just go touch it up after you are all done? I'll be rolling fenders in a couple months and still am not too sure about this part.

nah it chips
just use touchup paint or sand and primer :)
the folded part doesnt chip or crack if done right paint will stretch. but the part the hammer contacts of course will chip

Thanks dousan. I have bodywork hammers and stuff all over the garage, and my dad's a professional bodyman, so I hope we can keep the chipping to a minimum.

I understand the rolling, I don't understand how a rolling tool works but I understand the concept behind it. its the PULLING that I'm confused about....
do you unfold the inside edge of the fender and stretch it out, or???

DoriftoSlut
01-22-2004, 08:16 PM
No. Its like rolling the fender, but instead of just flattening the inner lip you push it extra hard against the fender (from the inside out) making the fender metal (which is also heated up a lot) press outward.

To keep it from chipping and cracking when rolling, what you do is cut a slit with a razor on the bottom edge of the fender lip to keep the paint from stretching and cracking.

01-23-2004, 12:15 AM
