Fixing a botched red top into S14 swap at the moment. Undoubtedly the worse work I have ever seen in my life. The highlight? The turbo is welded to the manifold. Yes, that's right the shop that did the swap welded the turbo to the mani. Not only that, the welds are shitty and it's leaking all over the place. All I could say when I saw it was wow. lol.
For those of you out there who are planning on having a shop do your swap make sure you've seen some of their work before hand. Don't just go on what other people are saying.

holy crap they WELDED the turbo on... ok... I can see the logic there after having sooo many nuts come off my turbo/manifold... but then to do a shitty job and have it leaking.... wow... thats horrrible...

use the macro function when taking closeup pics, it helps the camera focus on your subject, instead of the background.

wow. that's about as awesome as the JB weld patch i found on a customer's A/T (on a Sentra). it measured about 2-3" in diameter. Yes. A patch totally made of JB weld.

I can totally understand why someone would weld the turbo to the manifold, i've thought about doing it SO many times because the bolts and the gasket is really pissing me off, ... but if your going to do it, you can't do it shittily because then you can't even do it the original way.

I have seen some crazy stuff with JB weld, like mufflers "welded" on and stuf with them its crazy....or one kid in my town JB welded his bike handlebars together it was nuts that it held and he would jump it and stuff. I thought he was gonna die for sure.....but I can understand welding the turbo to the manifold, but the way you describe it just sounds ridiculous.

Absolutely correct. I am just about finished completing a swap for a friend who had it started at another shop that obviously did not know what they were doing.
I swear that I will never ever try to clean up someone else's work. I would have been better off pulling the motor out again and starting from the beginning. I was kicking myself doing some rework that would have been a no brainer when the engine was out of the car. Never again.

First thing you should try is a flex pipe in your exhaust. There is some research behind why they make a turbo manifold and gasket separate from the turbo......It would be cheaper to manufacture (as in Dodges SRT-4) but think of why they would do it this way.
Are you going to buy a new manifold if your turbo goes bad?.....and if it is welded....wheres the next weak point that will be found? the studs in the head of the motor.
