The easiest way i think is to look down under your car and see if your diff cover has heatsinks and an orange sticker that says viscos lsd i think.

jack the rear two wheels up, but the car in neutral, and spin one wheel.

If the other wheel spins in same direction, then u have LSD

If the other side doesn't move, or spins the opposite direction, then you don't.

you could do all of the above or just do a burn out and see if there are 1 or 2 lines. its your choice though.

sometimes that doesn't quite work. I did it with my auto hatch. Put it in neutral and reved to 3krpm and put it in gear and left two tire marks. then I did the test I descrived earlier, and also looked for the VLSD sticker and showed i didn't have LSD : (

driving around in a semi tight circle will work better. YOu'll either spin around if you a vlsd or you'll just spin the inside tire if you have and open diff.

Chances are you don't have LSD, but if you want to be sure, you can let me drive it and I'll tell you for sure. :D
Kidding. (not really...) Just look on the side of the pumpkin for that orange sticker that they're talking about.

haha you guys are nuts...i think the "jack the car up and spin one wheel" would work the best...i have no clue where that orange sticker is. gosh i love this site! its so helpful. :wiggle:

The Pumpkin! ... that's the big metal "ball" or "case" that sits right between your two rear wheels, down the center of the car. The axles are connected to this thing... which we refer to as the "pumpkin" because it's vaguely reminiscent of one, and weighs a fuckin' ton. Just like a pumpkin. There should be a little orange sticker that says "VLSD" or "LSD" or "Limited Slip Differential" or something to that effect on the side of it. :d you'd just have to crawl under the car and take a peep at it to see.

Here is an even easier way to do it.....

look in the engine compartment and there should be a silver id tag on your passenger side...
look at the numbers and letters marked MODEL ID
count 18 letters
in the 18th place for a 95 240sx
if you have a "-" then you dont have vlsd
If you have a "c" then you do have abs and vlsd
"e" you have just vlsd
"f" you dont have it

96
if you have an "a" or "c" you have vlsd
if you have a "-" or "b" you dont have

97-98
if you have a "c" or "f" you got vlsd
if you got a "-" or "d" you dont

.....but only if you have an s-14, if you have an s-13, do the wheel spin method.

Oh, and Riielle, what part of macon are you in, I attend mercer University.

Yeah, Bibb County. I am from Woodstock (15 miles north of Atlanta) but I live down here during the school term. My name is Justin Burmeister, live off Mercer University Drive in the Stadium apartments. Your name doesnt ring familar to me but then again i am horrible with names. Where do you live??? You might see me driving around every once in a while, I have a 97 green s14 and a 93 black hatch with silver FNO1R-C's and an undisclosed engine.... :naughtyd: What do you drive???
